      The Letter of Credit Specialist 2 is an advanced role responsible for the issuance, amendment, negotiation, and management of various types of letters of credit, including standby, import, export, foreign bonds, and guarantees. The Specialist 2 also processes payments and reimbursement claims, manages evergreen notices, and provides expert consultation to clients and internal stakeholders on all international products and services. This role requires extensive experience and knowledge of international trade standards, regulatory compliance, and operational best practices.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Issue, amend, and negotiate Import and Export Letters of Credit, Foreign Bonds and Guarantees, Standby Letters of Credit, and related documents.
      • Process incoming and outgoing documentary collections, ensuring compliance with trade terms and regulatory requirements.
      • Liaise with the Bank of Montreal for issuing, amending, and negotiating all types of letters of credit.
      • Manage evergreen (auto-extend) Letter of Credit notices, Direct Pay Letters of Credit, participations, and accounts receivable transactions.
      • Serve as a consultant to internal and external clients, providing technical assistance and expert advice on letter of credit structures and international banking services.
      • Prepare Letter of Credit applications and addendums for Relationship Bankers.
      • Act as a trusted advisor for clients and bankers, offering tailored solutions and guidance on international banking products.
      • Address complex inquiries and discrepancies related to letters of credit and documentary collections.
      • Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements, including OFAC, BSA/AML, and trade compliance red flags.
      • Apply advanced knowledge of UCP, INCOTERMS, URC, and ISP in processing transactions and advising clients.
      • Support other areas of International Banking operations when needed.
      • Lead or participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and client satisfaction.

      MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

      • Associate degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting preferred.
      • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in international banking or trade finance.
      • Expertise in managing complex letter of credit transactions and international trade operations.
      • Advanced knowledge of UCP, INCOTERMS, URC, and ISP standards.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to consult on international banking products and services.
      • Proficiency in identifying compliance risks and addressing trade compliance requirements, including OFAC and BSA/AML.

      ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
      • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 20 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions.
