      DPL is hiring an ideaLAB Teen Tech who will work 10-hours per week at the Sam Gary Branch Library. Denver Public Library’s ideaLABs are makerspaces: free community spaces to make things. Customers of all ages can use the tools, equipment, and supplies in the ideaLABs to produce videos, create games, sew, learn about electronics, and much more. ideaLABs provide the tools and resources needed to make all kinds of creative projects happen! The person in this role will use their excellent customer service skills and creativity to create positive and welcoming experiences for library customers in the ideaLAB.

      The Sam Gary ideaLAB Teen Tech will independently guide customers through maker based projects and activities, with an emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM). They will assist with set up and clean up of open labs and structured programs. The Teen Tech will create a positive relationship with staff and customers (children, teens, and adults).

      This position is 10 hours per week, year round. During the school year, the schedule will include some after school hours and Saturday afternoons. During the summer, the schedule will be mutually decided upon based on the needs of open lab hours. Open lab hours are Tuesdays - Thursdays 1-5:30 p.m. and Fridays -Saturdays 12:30- 4:30 p.m. Open lab hours are subject to change.


      About Our Branch

      The Sam Gary Branch Library is an active library that provides service to diverse customers from many Denver neighborhoods. The branch is located in the family friendly, Central Park neighborhood of Denver. The branch is the largest branch of DPL and has the highest number of visitors, check outs and returns. The library serves a high volume of children and their caregivers. The library provides several storytimes a week and has an active Teen Advisory Board. Many of the customers are daily or weekly library users and staff strive to connect with them on a personal level. The person in this role will use their excellent customer service skills and creativity to create positive and welcoming experiences for library customers in the ideaLAB. The ideaLAB was constructed in 2020 and opened in June of 2021. The ideaLAB serves customers of all ages and skill levels. The ideaLAB is busiest when school is not in session (summers, school breaks, weekends and after school hours). The Sam Gary Branch ideaLAB is the busiest DPL ideaLAB and serves a high volume of kids and families.

      About You

      Our ideal candidate has:

      • Must be between the ages of 14-17.

      • Live, go to school, or be homeschooled in or near the Central Park neighborhood.

      • Ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds, particularly grades K-5.

      • Be welcoming and passionate about interacting with and helping customers.

      • Interest in technology, which could include: computers, music recording, coding, digital arts, video game design, 3D design and printing, laser cutting, soldering, and electronics.

      • Interest in making, which could include: sewing, textiles, jewelry, art, drawing, painting, and general craft.

      • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on projects in the lab.

      • A desire to learn, to be creative and innovative.
