- September 1-7: Africa Food systems forum, Rwanda
- October 14-20: World Food Forum, Committee on Food Security, Rome
- December: ILRI IPM and Strategy Launches, Nairobi
- Provide logistical and coordination support to the directorate in relation to events for ILRI’s anniversary celebrations. Including but not limited to:
- convening meetings with logistical and other support teams;
- communicating with senior level participants;
- arranging for travel and accommodation needs, organizing conference venue etc.
- Support to organizing webinars when needed
- Managing speakers
- Engaging and communicating with high level donors, decision-making, government officials around particularly events
- Support in developing speeches, powerpoints and other materials for the Director and others on ILRI related work as well as CGIAR related work
- Developing briefing notes on various topics related to livestock development
- Developing and managing an Alumni list and ensuring they are informed and engaged, including participation in events where applicable.
- Production of powerpoints, talking point and other materials
- Successful completion of events
- Updated Alumni list
- Updated VIP list
- Report/presentation on how ILRI can better systematize and organize its work
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline e.g. communications, agriculture, development, journalism, development communications, innovation systems, ICT or development
- At least 7 years of experience in communications, event management or related field. Working in development related organization highly desirable.
- Highly organized and ability to problem solve
- Ability to write and synthesize information
- Creative in solving problems and developing messages, briefs and materials for the directorate.
- Ability to facilitate people as well as work alone to get jobs done
International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a seasoned communication and event management professional to provide support to a range of activities throughout the year.
ILRI works to improve food security and nutrition and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe, and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 11 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, ILRI has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org
Background
The International Livestock Research Institute is celebrating its 50th Anniversary throughout 2024 requires a seasoned communication and event management professional to provide support to a range of activities throughout the year. Consultant should be based in Nairobi, willing to travel and work flexible hours.
The consultant will work under the Executive management directorate of ILRI and support strategic engagements throughout the year. The consultant will work closely with the Executive management team, the Directorate assistants and the ILRI communications team.

Consultancy Fee: By mutual agreement based on agreed milestones and deliverables.
Post location: Home-based.
Expected places of travel: within Nairobi, Rome, Rwanda
Duration: 01 April 2024 to 31 December 2024 with a maximum working day: 75 days
