      Immigration and Legal Groups are recruiting at the APS3 level across various states and territories in Australia. We seek candidates with a passion for public service and a commitment to integrity. This process is being used to fill various immediate vacancies. A merit pool will be established and used to fill similar vacancies for up to 18 months.

      About our team

      Immigration and Legal Group | Various sections

      Immigration Group is responsible for administering Australia’s permanent and temporary migration programs, people smuggling policy and implementation and refugee and humanitarian settlement programs. The group delivers status resolution in detention and the community and manages the Department’s client facing services and information services. It also provides policy advice on national impacts of migration, citizenship and people mobility and delivers citizenship, social cohesion and multicultural programs. The group also leads on implementing the government’s proposed policy shifts needed to reform the migration system.

      Immigration Operations drives business reforms across the group by supporting greater collaboration across immigration policy and enabling functions with the capacity to coordinate whole-of-agency activities to ensure a coherent immigration agenda. The group also supports regional headquarters both onshore and offshore.

      Legal Group is a trusted and independent legal advisor. The group provides confidential legal advice in a professional capacity to clients across a range of functions including litigation, legislation and advice work. The group also includes the Department’s information governance functions of privacy, freedom of information (FOI) and records management. Please note that this register does not include legal officer roles, which are undertaken separately.

      Eligibility

      To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

      Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
