      In Service Support Technician

      Appointment Basis: Permanent

      Site: Palestra House, SE1

      Salary: CIRCA £54,886 plus additional annual payments

      Shifts: 4 on 4 off, 12 hour shifts, days and nights rotating. Based on a 42 hour a week.

      Your Future Role

      To provide immediate in-service technical support to any London Overground service requiring technical assistance by communicating safety critical and technical advice verbally to train-crew. Protect the Train Plan and Performance Regime by reducing delays through real time diagnostic response information to train-crew, and ownership of improving “in traffic” reliability of the Units. Responsible for ensuring any failures are managed safely and effectively within the defined response times. Direct technical support to any failure or escalate safety related faults to the engineering team at Depot for investigation or via the on-call procedure. Report all defects in accordance with all Railway Safety Standards Boards procedures and Alstom’s defect reporting procedures.

      Responsibilities

      • Receive and relay verbal instructions to train-crew and Production staff that has a direct impact on the safe movement of vehicles that could significantly affect the health or safety of persons throughout the London Overground operation.
      • Notify the London Overground Train Operating Company immediately of any matters which are or may be safety critical (i.e., Unit, Vehicle, infrastructure, or any items of equipment).
      • Undertake first line fault investigations and make informed decisions into the course of action and prioritisation required to rectify defects and alerts.
      • Report and record all faults in accordance with the Fault Notification Procedure.
      • Monitor state of the fleet using Orbita Fleet Monitor (or equivalent) ensuring good condition of all assets by performing preventative health scans as well as review of pre-defined alerts and recording any corrective actions in maintenance management system.
      • Interrogate diagnostic data and provide clear and concise instructions to ensure all faults are managed in accordance with all instructions, procedures and prioritise the fault workload accordingly.
      • Ensure all fault alerts are processed and reported into the maintenance management system and monitor any repeat defects occurring on Units. Ensure all data entered in the maintenance management system is accurate and reflects all the relevant facts.
      • Direct technical in-service support staff to any Unit that develops a safety critical fault or will have a major impact on the operational performance of the London Overground service.
      • Work with the London Overground Train Operating Companies “cut and run” policy to protect their Train Plan, whilst maintaining the requirements for the Exam Plan of the Units and ensure that safe movement of trains is maintained.
      • Liaise with the production staff undertaking overnight servicing of the Units at the stabling locations and inform the Train Preparer of any defects requiring attention.
      • Liaise with the Network Rail (NR) infrastructure Manager or Mobile Operations Manager (MOM) or any NR staff as necessary during train recovery procedure.
      • Undertake fleet short-term planning activities (i.e., updating the maintenance management system with fleet daily mileage, updating maintenance plan when required).
      • Ensure Units are on planned “maintenance diagrams” and liaise with Control Room staff to ensure Units return to depot within their planned maintenance mileage tolerances.

      About you

      • Qualified to HNC level and/ or served an approved apprenticeship or equivalent practical training.
      • Previous experience in ISST role (desirable).
      • Technical understanding of Class 378 and 710 rolling stock (desirable).
      • Enthusiastic and process driven.
      • Ability to communicate at a professional and technical level with the customer, team, and management.
      • Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic principles.
      • Computer literate.
      • Good understanding of English language (written and verbal).
