      Description

      The Y Abilities Instructor , under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director and Inclusion Coordinator, provides safe, motivational and knowledgeable instruction to all members and participants. The instructor is responsible for the safety and proper instruction of all class activities and will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA.

      Essential Functions:

      • Keep safety as a first priority. Emphasize personal safety and emotional well being of all staff, volunteers, members and program participants.
      • B y personal example helps interpret quality of YMCA Character Values - Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
      • Responsible to work with supervisor and fellow instructors to ensure administrative duties for the sports classes and special events.

      Qualifications


      • Must be 16 years of age or older;
      • Prior experience in inclusive/adaptive enrichment either from employment or self participation;
      • Complete Child Abuse Online training prior to or on first day of hire. Complete Employee Orientation offered on the beginning of each month.
      • Must be able to interact and communicate with others.
      • Must have good human relations’ skills to facilitate positive relationships with staff, volunteers, parents, members and program participants.
      • Must be committed to the Merrimack Valley YMCA’s mission, goals, and Character Development.

      Working Conditions:

      • Provide and enjoyable experience that enables the participants to have fun
      • Provide a safe experience for all participants;
      • Teach fundamental sports skills;
      • Be polite and courteous at all times;
      • Arrive 15 minutes prior to start time of first class for set-up, roster and safety checks;
      • Wear your staff shirt, name tag, gym shorts or sweat pants, and sneakers;
      • Follow curriculum and job related tasks set forth by the Associate Executive Director and Inclusion Coordinator;
      • Maintain and leave the Gymnasium and/or designated program space in a safe and orderly manner;
      • Participate in and attend monthly staff meetings.
      • Instructors for IAS and aquatics programs must have knowledge of swimming and ability to work in wet environments.
