      Job Overview

      The Industrial Engineer will be responsible for optimizing Macy’s investment in automation and systems for a one million+ square feet highly automated fulfillment center. The individual will develop and deploy effective tools, methods and processes that reduce waste, utilize data-driven decision making, and promote robust lean problem solving. The Industrial Engineer should possess a background in engineering disciplines and hands-on operational experience. Strong collaboration and communication skills are required for partnering with and leading operations team.

      Essential Functions

      • Develop and implement process improvement and cost savings initiatives for a one million+ square feet highly automated customer fulfillment center.
      • Work closely with leadership and operations management teams in achieving cost and service goals.
      • Ensure effective use of automation and inventory storage equipment to maximize the value of facility assets.
      • Function as the fulfillment center subject matter expert in utilizing automation and technology to effectively manage workload balancing across departments.
      • Engineer and standardize job functions in partnership with operations and peers across the Macy's network.
      • Assist in the development and evaluation of labor management standards.
      • Recommend WMS, WES and WCS upgrades and modifications to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
      • Evaluate use of packaging supplies and other materials for cost take-out opportunities.
      • Partner with central engineering team to support corporate initiatives and capital projects.
      • Analyze data using Excel, SQL, Access and other data management systems.
      • Monitoring existent metrics, analyzing data and partnering with internal teams to identify process and system improvement opportunities.

      Qualifications and Competencies

      • We encourage candidates with either a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field to apply.
      • Knowledge of:
        • Material Handling Systems
        • Engineering economics and decision analysis
        • Human factors (human-machine/technology interaction)
        • Systems Design and Optimization
        • Warehouse Control System
        • Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, AutoCAD and Microsoft Project
        • Six Sigma experience a plus
        • Practices open and continuous communication, values keeping others informed, effectively presenting information in a clear, concise manner.
      • Ability to effectively plan and execute strategies.
      • Ability to solve problems as well as recognize issues and deal with them directly
      • Ability to work a flexible schedule with retail hours, including day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays

      Communication Skills:

      • Proven ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
      • Ability to write effective reports and memos.
      • Self-directed and outgoing, capable of participating in high exposure projects

      Reasoning Ability:

      • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
      • Proven experience working in a methodical, analytical and detailed oriented environment is required.
      • Resourceful and efficient in completing assigned tasks with strong follow through skills.
      • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, metric-driven environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
      • Create solutions from abstract concepts and ideas.

      Physical Requirements

      • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking or climbing stairs around facility or department
      • Frequent use of computers and other technology necessary to perform job duties, including handheld electronic equipment.
      • May involve reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, color vision, depth perception and focus adjustment
      • Travel required 10%

      Supply Chain Only and Colleagues Working in a Supply Chain Facility except in locations governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement:

      Random drug testing for all colleagues will be conducted on a monthly or semi-monthly basis, depending upon factors including but not limited to the size of the facility and the number of colleagues on roll. Colleagues will be randomly selected for testing by a third party. Testing must be completed on the same workday the colleague is informed of selection for testing, absent extenuating circumstances. In all circumstances, testing must be completed within 24 hours of notification.
