      Join our team as an Industrial Hygiene Consultant and lead the charge in creating a safer, healthier environment for our campus community! This exciting role offers the opportunity to shape and drive impactful occupational health programs that make a real difference for faculty, staff, and students.

      As part of our Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team, you will play a key leadership role in developing and implementing comprehensive industrial hygiene programs that adhere to regulatory standards and industry best practices. You’ll be at the forefront of identifying and controlling potential health hazards across campus, from hazardous chemicals and noise to vibration and other physical risks.

      What you'll be doing:
      • Lead Program Development: Spearhead the creation and implementation of innovative industrial hygiene programs, policies, and procedures designed to meet and exceed regulatory standards.
      • Assess and Control Hazards: Conduct thorough worksite evaluations to identify and mitigate health hazards that could impact our campus community, including exposure to dangerous chemicals, noise, and physical hazards.
      • Mentor and Lead: Guide and mentor a team of professionals while taking the lead on key activities like air sampling, noise monitoring, exposure assessments, and handling hazardous building materials such as asbestos, lead, silica, and formaldehyde.
      • Provide Expert Guidance: Analyze data from safety assessments and prepare detailed reports with actionable recommendations for corrective actions to ensure a safe and compliant environment.
      • Collaborate for Safety: Work closely with a varied range of campus departments, from Facilities Services to Campus Health, to resolve industrial hygiene challenges and improve overall safety practices.
      • Drive Incident Response: Lead or participate in investigations related to occupational illnesses or exposures, recommending solutions to prevent future incidents.
      • Empower Through Education: Develop and deliver training on critical industrial hygiene topics such as hazard communication, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and ergonomics.

      Breakdown of Job duties:
      Professional Knowledge
      • Oversees incorporation and implementation of University, local, State and Federal guidelines; stays current on trends in the industry; interprets and incorporates changes/updates to campus programs.
      • Reviews existing and assists with developing new EHS operating guides and best practices addressing employee exposure prevention and assessment, medical surveillance, exposure assessment, indoor air quality, safe handling of hazardous chemicals, animal care safety (IACUC), hearing conservation program, respiratory protection, along with other preventative occupational health and safety programs.
      • Provide recommendations for efficient and effective solutions utilizing engineering controls and safe work practices.
      • Perform process hazard reviews, assessments and consultations on inquiries and new programming with campus partners.
      • Assist with ventilation and building systems that impact engineering controls and exposure mitigation
      Program Management and Administrative
      • Determine and adapt procedures and/or practices based on a broad variety of regulations impacting assessment and corrective action (i.e. respiratory protection)
      • Facilitate IACUC animal care safety programming in partnership with IACUC program leads, chemical exposure assessments, medical surveillance and other related needs.
      • Participate in campus emergency response; may provide technical expertise and/or assist other responding agencies.
      • Analyzes and interprets analytical and workplace inspections data; provide direction for report preparation for areas of responsibility (internal and external to the University).
      • Conducts environmental assessments, with data analytics, recommendations and proposed actions in reports and professional communications
      • Lead efforts to achieve synergistic results in the areas of indoor air quality, medical surveillance, field exposure prevention and assessment and others with campus partners in Facilities, Campus Health and Research Administration.
      Change Management
      • Actively engages with other professionals in the field to ensure programs align with industry best practices.
      • Utilizes significant technical expertise to serve as Subject Matter Expert in developing and implementing new or original programs; evaluate effectiveness in the training programs.
        Determine composition of corrective actions of existing programs; make decisions impacting the campus policy or procedure.
      • Ensure personnel assessments are performed, review for completeness and make recommendations for health and safety measures as appropriate.
      • Consults and negotiates with industry professionals to provide guidelines on EHS regulations and encourage/promote campus compliance.
      Communication
      • Collaborates closely with campus partners to identify and implement process changes aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance through conducting in process hazard reviews.
      • Analyzes and identifies specialized EHS standards and educational resources requiring significant analysis to determine training materials and communication methods (example respiratory protection and hearing conservation)
      • Conduct and communicate major investigation actions, internal and external to the organization.
