      Summary

      The Infection Prevention Data Analyst is responsible for providing clerical, administrative, and computer data processing support for the Infection Control Department. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

      Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

      • Knowledge of medical terminology and/or medical records as acquired through education or 3-5 years clinical working experience.
      • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgement in a professional manner.
      • Proficient in computer operations and PC/software applications such as Microsoft Office and other related software.
      • Effective collaborative skills and ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing with others.
      • Ability to meet time sensitive reporting data.
      • Ability to understand the scope and structure of the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) data entry and analysis functions.
      • Strong quantitative abilities; including mathematical, statistical and computer database management skills to calculate compliance percentage, infection rates and Standardized Infection Ratios (SIRs).
      • Ability to use NHSN analysis to conduct data quality checks.
      • Ability to use the electronic infection prevention surveillance program, i.e., Theradoc.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint (or similar software programs).

      Key Job Responsibilities

      • Collaborates with department leaders to calculate and prepare infection surveillance data.
      • Calculates patient days, numerator and denominator data using financial and infection reports.
      • Prepares complex written materials from NHSN including customized analysis, infection rates and healthcare acquired standardized ratios.
      • Serves as system administrator for the healthcare acquired infection surveillance database for the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC)/NHSN electronic system for rate computation on behalf of the MLH system for reporting to Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services. Adds and supports other users.
      • Serves as a resource to Infection Prevention nursing team for data analysis.
      • Prepares healthcare acquired infection rates and standardized infection ratio (SIR) summaries, graphs, and analyses.
      • Submits influenza and healthcare acquired data to CMS to meet national deadlines to avoid financial penalties.
      • Generates patient worksheets from microbiology reports and operative clinical records.
      • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
      • Takes and composes minutes for Infection Prevention Committee using appropriate format and performs office duties as required.
      • Performs other job functions as requested or assigned.

      Physical Requirements

      • Occasional patient contact through culturing.
      • Potential exposure to patient with infectious disease.
      • Ability to read, write, and communicate both orally and written to other individuals.
      • Normal or corrected-to-normal hearing and vision, including color, night, and peripheral vision.
      • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, squat, kneel, reach, bend, crawl, and twist throughout the shift.
      • Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive, coordinated motions and have good hand-eye coordination.
      • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. without assistance and push and pull up to 250 lbs.
      • Ability to perform repetitive and wrist motion as well as using hands for gripping and squeezing.
