- Assists in monitoring internal and external networks, systems, and applications for security anomalies and events (e.g. suspicious behavior, charges, and security breaches).
- Responds to cyber incidents, performing routine analysis using security tools.
- Assists in using the discoveries from the incident response process to make basic improvements to the existing detection capabilities.
- Documents findings to security alerts.
- Works under supervision and with some assistance, resolves issues and navigates obstacles to deliver work product.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Up to 2 years of related experience in Information Security, Cybersecurity and/or Information Technology with a security focus to include accountability for simple to moderately complex tasks and/or projects.
- Foundational and conceptual knowledge of function/subject area and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products.
- Foundational level of business insight in the areas of business operations, risk management, industry practices and emerging trends.
- Proven knowledge or experience performing malware analysis and script writing (powershell, python, etc.)
- Proven knowledge or experience with endpoint security technologies and SIEM platforms

Threat Responder and Investigators are on the cutting edge of assuring the security of USAA and its members. The candidate selected for this position will join an innovative team that conducts investigation and response actions across a USAA enterprise that spans the entire globe. They will provide analysis leveraging endpoint and network data sources to quickly assess threats across Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms and conduct response actions. This position sits on the frontline of the safety and security of USAA member data.
Within defined guidelines and framework investigates, analyzes, and responds to security anomalies and events (e.g. suspicious behavior, attacks, and security breaches) within USAA’s environments using a variety of cyber defense tools to detect and respond to threats. Conducts security event triage, response actions, and basic malware analysis. Identifies cyber threats, analyzes operational impacts, and communicates to appropriate collaborators. Stays ahead of with latest information security threats, exploits, trends, and intelligence.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $61,110 - $116,880.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
