      About the Position:

      As an Information Services Specialist for Senior Services, you serve as a representative of Columbus Metropolitan Library, engaging primary with older adults in the community to provide access to library services and resources in an outreach setting. Additionally, you are the collection lead for the senior services, responsible for curating and maintaining the collection for use with the lobby stop and home delivery services. Shares responsibility for driving and maintaining outreach vehicles.

      Position Schedule

      Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

      What You’ll Do:

      • Proactively provides a high level of customer service and assists Outreach customers through various aspects of using library resources and services.
      • Interviews, researches and answers customer questions by locating appropriate sources of information using a variety of tools and resources.
      • Provides readers’ advisory to Outreach customers (in person and remotely) using appropriate sources of information, including knowledge of the collection and relevant resources. Creates monthly booklists and reports. Assists site contacts with selection of materials.
      • Trains and assists customers and staff on use of library technologies through one-on-one, small groups and in classroom settings.
      • Serves as the collection lead for the Senior Services collection, overseeing weeding, merchandising, and management of materials. Uses circulation data and customer feedback to inform decisions, and provides regular input to Collection Program Leads, Collection Services Selectors, and the Outreach Services Manager to support systemwide collection goals.
      • Ensures that the Lobby Stop carts are regularly refreshed with new materials. Curates the selection of materials based on customer needs and feedback. Creates displays and merchandises materials on Lobby Stop carts.
      • Shares responsibility for driving and maintaining outreach vehicles. Safely drives the library’s outreach vehicle to events, ensuring proper operation and reporting maintenance concerns as needed. Helps maintain a clean and organized vehicle for smooth event execution.
      • Validates criteria for customers requesting the home delivery service, communicates with USPS to add new Home Delivery customers to receive free mail service.
      • Maintains personal skills and stays up-to-date to assure quality of service in areas of library collections, technology, readers’ advisory and reference, including knowledge of community resources.
      • Assists with School Delivery or Collection Services duties as needed.
      • Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, etc.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s Degree required.
      • Experience in children’s, teen and/or adult services within a library setting required.
      • Customer service experience required.
      • Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
      • Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems.
      • Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements.
      • Valid driver license which meets the minimum requirements of CML’s vehicle insurance policy.
      • Acts and makes decisions with the customer in mind using information gained from direct experience and data. Meets the expectations and requirements of external and internal customers.
      • Cultivates engagement and support of the Library’s vision and purpose among the team. Fosters open dialogue.
      • Ability to engage with the local community and to establish and maintain key relationships with organizations, businesses and individuals.

      Working Conditions and Physical Demands

      The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).

      Work requires occasional lifting or pushing of up to 100 lbs. and the frequent lifting or pushing of up to 50 lbs.
