      St. Louis Public Library

The St. Louis Public Library’s Divoll Branch has an opening for a full-time Information Specialist.       Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis.


      The Information Specialist is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service and is comfortable working with the public and providing technology-related assistance.


      In this role you will:

      • Assist customers with library card registration and checking out and returning library materials.

      • Assist in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.

      • Provide technology assistance to customers with Library equipment.

      • Assist with daily housekeeping operations, projects, and opening and closing of the building

      • Assist with programming as needed.

      You will need to be:

      • Friendly, patient, and able to build relationships at all levels.

      • Able to see the big picture and promote consistency and excellence of service.

      • Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from customers and staff

      • Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.

      • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.

      You will need to have:

      • Two to three years of library-related experience, or an associate’s degree, or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.

      • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.

      • Strong organizational skills.

      • Ability to learn and use technology as the Library continues to evolve

      Hours for this position are:

      Mon.: 11:45am-8:15pm, Tues.-Thurs.: 9:45-6:15pm, alternating Fri.& Sat.: 8:45am-5:15pm, occasional Sunday: 12:45-5:15pm, hours subject to change.

      About Divoll Library:

      • The Divoll Branch first opened at 1100 Farrar Street in 1910. The library later moved to its present location at 4234 North Grand Boulevard, opening in 1967 and remodeled in 1998.

      • 8,000 square feet

      • Collection size approximation is 17,500 (includes juvenile and adult)

      • 1 Public meeting room


      About the neighborhood:

      The Divoll Branch, located in the Fairground Neighborhood, was named in honor of Ira Divoll, the "Father of the St. Louis Public Library.” The Divoll Branch is located near the Grand Avenue Water Tower, which was built in 1870. Also called “The White Water Tower,” it is the tallest free-standing Corinthian column in the world. The Divoll Branch of the St. Louis Public Library has served as a community anchor for residents and meeting place for community groups for generations of neighbors.
