We are hiring a winter 2024 co-op/intern to join the Infrastructure & Renewable Resources (“I&RR”), Portfolio Management & Insights (“PM&I”) team. This is a great opportunity to work in a global investment management company on the beautiful west coast of Canada, in a growing department with over C$22 billion AUM.

      The Portfolio Management & Insights team contributes to protecting, growing, and realizing the value of the portfolio by: 1) providing support for portfolio monitoring and analytics; 2) assisting with client reporting, presentations, and data requirements; 3) analyzing the total portfolio and forecasting capital pacing needs; 4) identifying or implementing enterprise risk and mitigation strategies and optimizing processes and workflows; 5) facilitating the yearend valuation process including reviewing, analyzing and reporting on private market valuations; 6) monitoring and conducting due diligence on fund investments.

      The PM&I co-op/intern will work within our I&RR department. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your knowledge to support an institutional investor’s diversified global portfolio.

      WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

      The I&RR team invests globally in private infrastructure businesses that provide stable long-term results. BCI’s I&RR portfolio has more than $22 billion in AUM and consistently ranks within the top 10 largest institutional infrastructure investors globally. The portfolio spans a range of sectors including utilities, transportation, and telecommunications as well as tangible assets in timberland and agriculture.

      I&RR seeks meaningful investments in private companies enabling an active governance approach. The team invests in a variety of capacities including as a sole sponsor, co-investor, and very selectively through externally managed funds. In these capacities, the team seeks to take an active oversight role built on a foundation of trusted relationships with all stakeholders and a commitment to long-term value creation.

      WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

      • Work under the supervision of the Portfolio Management & Insights team to assist with various projects, including:

      • Preparing analyses to support the monitoring of the portfolio

      • Preparing presentation materials for I&RR portfolio reviews and client meetings; delivering presentations in group settings

      • Reviewing, analyzing and summarizing private market valuations

      • Collaborating with the team to execute on or potentially lead other operational projects and initiatives

      • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including other I&RR teams and departments within the organization

      • Supporting ad hoc research and briefing requests

      • Required Skills

      • Working towards an undergraduate degree or master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Commerce

      • Working knowledge of business and investment-related disciplines

      • Demonstrated interest in I&RR asset class

      • Knowledge of valuation principles for private market investments

      • Ability to use Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

      • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment

      • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

      • Ability to break down and solve problems through quantitative analysis

      • Have an entrepreneurial spirit and strive to create a positive impact in a fast-paced, dynamic environment (i.e., see a need, take on responsibility, and act on it)

      • Ability to prioritize and manage competing deliverables

      • Strong organizational and planning skills

      THE DETAILS

      • Work term: Winter 2024 (January to April)

      • Department: Infrastructure & Renewable Resources

      • Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC

      • Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island

      • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

      • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
