Inspect Harris County Flood Control District's infrastructure maintenance projects involving channels, basins, outfall pipes, and slope failures.
Measure, calculate, and verify contract quantities completed by the contractor for payment.
Maintain daily records of work performed by contractors.
Complete project work orders and schedule contract work.
Conduct site evaluations of completed active and future projects.
Prepare invoice estimates for monthly contractor payments.
Complete daily status reports, project reports, and contractor work schedules.
Schedule and conduct project update meetings with contractor representatives.
Additional Responsibilities and Duties:
Interact and mediate with contractors, engineers, and Harris County Flood Control District staff to resolve problems identified on the plans or on the job site.
Review developer or utility construction plans and specifications involving non-flood control features for compliance with the Harris County Flood Control District criteria.
Acts as backup for floodgate operations which may require activities beyond the usual work hours.
- May perform other duties that can be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.
Requires high school graduate or equivalent.
Requires verifiable experience in construction inspection or similar field.
Good verbal & written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to be self-motivated.
A self-starter.
Ability to work in an outdoor setting.
Good organizational skills.
Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License
Prefer an associate's degree or higher in construction management or a related field.
Prefer inspection experience in interpreting drainage and flood control construction plans and inspecting construction installations.
Knowledge of GIS Software and ArcMap is a plus.
Bi-lingual skills in English/Spanish preferred.

Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying of items up to 11 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Frequent driving of a vehicle with automatic controls and four-wheel drive.
Frequent walking up and down steep slopes of ditches or on rough and uneven surfaces or ground such as sloping terrains, plowed or furrowed areas, or construction sites.
Approximately 70% of duties will be performed outdoors where there will be routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, wind, and dust.
When at field locations, may be exposed to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, wind and dust, wildlife, and flying/walking insects.
When at field locations, may be exposed to vibration and/or noise in excess of 85 decibels.
Approximately 30% of duties will be performed indoors in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, air conditions, and noise levels.
May be exposed to fluids, compounds, or chemicals used in cleaning offices and/or work areas.
Job Summary:
The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking talented candidates for the role of Infrastructure Repairs Inspector.
Responsible for inspecting and providing quality control of the District’s drainage and channel maintenance projects. The Inspector will work closely with outside contractors to carry out construction repairs on drainage channels, detention basins, out falls, slope failures, and other repairs on open waterways within Harris County.
