  Job Summary

  
  

  DataXstream LLC is seeking a hands-on Infrastructure Systems Engineer to help keep our infrastructure and end-user devices secure, reliable, and audit ready. You’ll own day-to-day operations across Linux systems, VMware, backups, patching, and Apple device management, while partnering with the Helpdesk and other teams to resolve tickets, automate routine work, and strengthen our compliance posture under frameworks like SOC 2 and ISO 27001. This role blends technical execution with clear documentation and user enablement.

  
  
  

  Key Responsibilities:

  
  

  • Ticketed Operations & Escalations: Handle incoming support and operational tickets in Jira. Prioritize, troubleshoot, and escalate issues to the right teams as needed. Ensure updates, documentation, and resolutions are clear, timely, and complete for all internal and external stakeholders.
  • End-user Computing (Apple environment): Administer and support a primarily Apple environment (macOS and iOS). Manage device enrollment, configuration, and compliance through Addigy and Apple Business Manager. Oversee software updates, security controls (FileVault, ThreatDown), and full device lifecycle from provisioning to retirement. Provide light support for a limited number of Windows systems hosted in our datacenter.
  • Linux (SUSE) Administration: Manage and maintain SLES 15+ servers across on-prem and hybrid environments using vCenter. Support core infrastructure services such as Apache, reverse proxies, VPN, and SAP systems. Apply security hardening standards, maintain package repositories, and ensure consistent configuration across systems.
  • Patching & Vulnerability Management: Own the patching process for Linux systems and assist with other platforms as needed. Plan and coordinate maintenance windows, validate system health before and after updates, and track remediation progress to keep systems secure and compliant.
  • Virtualization & Backups: Manage VMware vSphere environments, including hosts, clusters, and templates. Maintain and improve Veeam Backup & Replication jobs with a focus on reliability, retention, and security. Perform and document backup restores and disaster recovery tests.
  • Scripting & Automation: Use Bash, Python, and PHP to automate everyday system tasks — from provisioning and patching to monitoring and reporting. Help build reliable, repeatable processes by contributing to shared runbooks and version-controlled automation that keeps our infrastructure running smoothly.
  • System Auditing & Observability: Implement and maintain system logging, metrics, and alerting to ensure visibility across environments. Maintain audit trails for privileged activity and configuration changes. Partner with Security to support endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning, and incident response efforts.
  • Documentation & User Enablement: Create and maintain clear documentation, including SOPs, knowledge base articles, and runbook diagrams. Deliver brief trainings or brown-bag sessions that strengthen admin skills and help end users solve problems independently.
  • Compliance Readiness (SOC 2 / ISO 27001): Align operational practices with compliance controls such as patching, backups, access reviews, and logging. Collect and organize audit evidence to maintain a continuous state of readiness for SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits.

  • Operating Systems & Configuration – SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES 15+), with standard Linux administration tools for networking, access control, and auditing.
  • Apple & End User Computing – macOS and iOS/iPadOS devices managed through Addigy and Apple Business Manager, with FileVault, configuration profiles, and ThreatDown for endpoint security.
  • Virtualization & Backup – VMware vSphere for server management and Veeam Backup & Replication for backup, retention, and disaster recovery across on-prem and cloud targets.
  • Automation & Scripting – Bash, Python, and CLI-based tooling, with Git-managed runbooks and lightweight workflow automation.
  • Identity & Cloud (Nice to Have) – Entra ID (Azure AD), Azure services, and SSO/SAML/OIDC identity integration patterns.
  • ITSM & Collaboration – Jira Service Management for ticketing and change control, with shared documentation and diagramming platforms for cross-team collaboration.

  
  
  

  Required Qualifications:
  

  
  

  • Linux administration experience – 3+ years managing SLES/SUSE systems in a production environment (SLES 15+ preferred).
  • Apple platform management – Hands-on experience supporting macOS and iOS/iPadOS devices in a managed environment using Addigy or Jamf, including Apple Business Manager, configuration profiles, FileVault, and software deployment.
  • Virtualization and backup expertise – Experience with VMware vSphere and Veeam for daily operations, backup/restore, and disaster recovery.
  • Automation and scripting – Proficiency in Bash and/or Python for automating routine tasks, reporting, and system management.
  • Patching and vulnerability management – Proven ability to plan and execute patch cycles, validate systems, and track compliance and remediation efforts.
  • Security and compliance awareness – Familiarity with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 control areas (change management, access control, backups, logging, vulnerability management) and comfort with collecting supporting evidence.
  • Networking fundamentals – Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and VPN/firewall basics.
  • A sense of ownership, curiosity, and responsibility.
  • Documentation and communication – Strong written communication skills; able to clearly document procedures and explain technical concepts to different audiences.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English

  
  
  

  Preferred Qualifications:
  

  
  

  • Configuration management and automation – Experience with SUSE Manager, Salt Stack, or other configuration management / Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
  • Windows and identity management – Familiarity with Windows Server or desktop environments and identity services such as Entra ID (Azure AD), including RBAC, conditional access, or Intune/Group Policy administration.
  • Monitoring and observability – Exposure to system monitoring, alerting, or observability platforms and an understanding of how they support uptime and reliability.
  • Hybrid and cloud experience – Understanding of hybrid infrastructure concepts, Azure services, and secure connectivity patterns between on-prem and cloud environments.
