      Innovation, Science and Engineering Senior Scientist

      YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


      In this role, you will serve as a project leader and consultant for multi-disciplinary Seed Production Innovation (SPI) projects focused on improving yield, efficiency, capacity, reliability & quality globally. You will partner with various teams within Product Supply and across Bayer to drive the development of innovative seed production technologies and explore new applications across crops and functions globally. You will also serve as a liaison between Innovation Science Engineering's (ISE) Science team and the Data and Analytics Community and bring in data and analytics tools to solve business problems.


      The primary responsibilities of this role, Innovation, Science and Engineering Senior Scientist, are to:

      • Be a member of a cross-functional team focused on translating innovative ideas into conceptual designs, prototypes, proposals, and help implement projects at our production locations;
      • Identify research projects and develop new protocols based on cutting edge research and innovations in the technical field of plant reproductive biology, emerging sensor technology, and data analytics;
      • Lead the design, execution and analysis of experiments to better understand/characterize the physiological & developmental response of crop plants to various treatments aiming to improve plant performance and to drive the discovery, development and deployment of novel technologies;
      • Design workflows and studies, collect, record, and interpret data appropriately;
      • Provide prototyping and data analytics support for other team projects if needed;
      • Provide regular and timely update on project status, key milestones, challenges and next steps to key stakeholders and leadership;
      • Supervise three or more contract researchers;
      • Foster & promote a culture of safety, innovation, inclusion, customer focus & collaboration;
      • Partner with Legal and IP teams to ensure that all pollen research and related efforts are in compliance with Freedom to Operate (FTO) and Intellectual Property (IP) valuation processes.

      Required Qualifications:

      • Masters Degree;
      • Experience in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biochemical/Agricultural Engineering or a related field;
      • Possess clear examples of taking initiative, identifying new methods and approaches and challenging assumptions;
      • Proven track record of managing complex inter-disciplinary initiatives;
      • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and trouble shooting skills, and a demonstrated ability to properly interpret research results and quickly set new directions;
      • Demonstrated ability to drive projects from conception to completion;
      • Demonstrated ability to build prototypes, to develop prediction models, and to integrate software with hardware;
      • Demonstrated ability to innovate, collaborate and work effectively in fast-paced team-oriented environment;
      • Strong communication skills to all levels of leadership & team members with diverse backgrounds;
      • Knowledge of statistical tools; experience in planning and executing experimental designs as well as analyses and interpretation of data;
      • Willingness to travel at least 10% of time.


      Preferred Qualifications:

      • PhD;
      • Masters with five plus years research experience in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biochemical/Agricultural Engineering or a related field.
