What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Read and interpret health record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures for inpatient encounters
- Complete final review of medical records and select appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes within designated deadlines
- Review documentation to ensure medical necessity aligns with assigned codes
- Assign working diagnosis, DRG, and expected length of stay upon admission and throughout hospitalization
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists II to address and identify documentation deficiencies
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current certification as CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT; must obtain CCS within 12 months of hire
- Self-directed with strong critical thinking and collaborative abilities
- Minimum of two years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility preferred
- Experience in a multi-service/specialty setting is advantageous
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Associate’s degree with two years of coding experience or a High School Diploma with four years of coding experience
- Two years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility
