      Overview:


      The Division of G e n et ic and Ge nomic M edicine in the D epa r t m e nt of P ediat r i cs at The Ohio State Univ e rsi ty College of M edicin e, locat ed at Na tion wide Childr en's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, is s ee king an inpatient clinical g e n et i cist to join in our clinical, research and te a ching a ctiv i ties.

      The Division serv es inpat i e nts and outpa tients of all ag es in a variety of disciplines several subspeciality clinics. The su c cessful c andidate will work collaboratively with other geneticists, genetic counselors, and ICU specialists to build the future of inpatient genetic care, with an emphasis on rapid diagnosis of critically ill infants and children. The inpatient team member will join an e x panding t e am that currently consis ts of ten clini cal g ene ticists ( two me tabolic ), 21 g e ne tic counse lors, t wo me tabolic die ticia ns, three nurse pr a ct i tioners, and me tabolic medical assi s t ants/ L PNs. Full g ene tics labor a tory serv i ces on si te inc lude biochemical g ene tics, c y tog e n et i cs, and molecular diagnos tic labs including on -si te rapid g enome s equ e n cing.

      The Division also suppor ts a Clini cal Ge netics r esi d e n cy progr am, and f ellowships in M edical B ioc h emi cal, Mole cular Ge n et i cs and Cy tog ene tics. Nationwide Childr en’s is 1 of 8 Re gional Gene tics Cent e rs funded by t he Ohio De par tment of Healt h, serving over 3.5 million (> 750,000 p ediat ric ag e) in cent ral, northw est and south e ast Ohio, w i th 35,000 bir ths annuall y.

      Provides medical care and treatment to patients.


      Job Description:


      Essential Functions:

      • Conducts patient assessments and diagnoses medical conditions.
      • Develops and implements treatment plans for patients in accordance with established protocols. Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plans as necessary.
      • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.
      • Communicates with patients and their families to provide education and support.
      • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient and coordinates care with other healthcare professionals.
      • Participates in the training and education of medical students, residents, and fellows as required.
      • Stays up-to-date with medical advancements and research to provide the best possible care.


      Education Requirement:

      • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine equivalent, required.
      • Graduate of an approved Fellowship program if applicable, required.


      Licensure Requirement:

      • Medical License in the State of Ohio, required.
      • Unrestricted licensed physician, required.


      Certifications:

      Board Certification or eligibility in Pediatrics, required.

      Prior clinical practice experience may be required based on the needs of the division.
