What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review and analyze documentation in medical records for accuracy in coding diagnoses and procedures
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT codes for inpatient, outpatient, and professional services
- Adhere to ethical coding standards and official coding guidelines
- Maintain a high level of experience with various coding classification systems and regulations
- Engage in ongoing education and training related to coding practices
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High school diploma
- Minimum of 3 years of coding experience in ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding in an acute care setting
- Required certifications include RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, or CIRCC, or completion within 6 months of employment
- Working knowledge of coding classification systems such as MS-DRGs and APCs
- Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including frequent data entry
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Associate's degree from an accredited Health Information Technology program or Bachelor's from an accredited Health Information Management program
- Experience with the 3M encoder and Epic systems
- Additional relevant certifications or training in coding practices
