Comprehensive knowledge of inspection/investigative processes and techniques, inspection/investigative best practices and evidence gathering;
Experience identifying, reporting, and resolving inspection/investigative violations;
Proven ability to work independently and complete tasks/projects by required deadlines, which sometimes are in opposition;
Strong written and verbal communication skills for providing technical support, agency information, and education to agency staff, board members, licensees, and interested persons.

The Oregon Mortuary & Cemetery Board (OMCB) is seeking a dedicated and motivated Inspector who can effectively work independently and collaboratively with other agency staff to ensure that our agency is protecting Oregonians’ public health, safety and welfare. The Board's programs affect those who have suffered a loss, those who make final arrangements and those who provide death care merchandise and services. It is the Board's responsibility to license and regulate the practice of individuals and facilities engaged in the care, preparation, processing, transportation and final disposition of human remains. The Board's licensees include funeral service practitioners (funeral directors), embalmers, apprentices, interns, death care consultants, funeral establishments, crematoriums, cemeteries and other facilities for final disposition of human remains.
About the Job – Your Role
As an Inspector for OMCB you will conduct onsite facility inspections and document reviews to determine compliance with state laws and rules; perform analytical and advisory work to ensure industry understanding of and compliance with state laws, rules, and polices; provide information and technical assistance; conduct investigations; and promote and enforce compliance through education in order to protect public health, safety and welfare.
Inspectors also support administrative/licensing staff by processing licensing applications, issuing new and renewed licenses, maintaining licensing files and online database; and providing technical assistance and information relating to licensing.
Working Conditions
This position requires a significant amount of travel during the course of the inspection and/or investigative process and for board meetings, trainings, presentations, and other similar offerings. May be required to work varied hours and/or overtime. This position will be exposed regularly to human remains, or at least facilities in which human remains are stored, prepared or processed prior to or at final disposition. This individual must conduct the inspection expediently, professionally, and without extraneous conversation of a personal nature.
This position is approved for a hybrid work schedule; however, onsite presence will be required as needed along with travel to various licensed facilities across the state.

What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years’ experience doing administrative research that included compiling and evaluating facts to recommend management action, or decide eligibility or compliance with program guidelines and regulations.
Note: college-level course work may substitute for the experience on the basis of 45-quarter units per year of experience
