      JOB SUMMARY

      Working collaboratively with faculty, the Instructional Designer applies research-based best practices and leverages technology tools to both build and update courses, with a focus on a consistent and engaging student experience. This position requires a creative and organized individual with a strong understanding of instructional design principles, technology integration, and a commitment to promoting inclusive and accessible education.

      The Design Specialist's role includes managing their assigned course builds, ensuring on-time completion, building collaborative relationships, and managing other independent projects as assigned. This position is also engaged in designing and delivering professional development related to instructional design, which could include live sessions on LMS or other software, the development of asynchronous training materials, and/or digital asset management.

      ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

      • Work closely with faculty members, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to design and update engaging and effective online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses.

      • Apply a design process to ensure internal alignment between course objectives, assessments, and course content, as well as alignment with broader curriculum and program learning outcomes.

      • Ensure that assigned course designs align with industry best practices, disciplinary and regional accreditation standards, and program goals.

      • Working under the guidance of the program’s lead Instructional Designer and in partnership with the faculty subject matter expert, manage multiple instructional design projects concurrently, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met. Attend program meetings as requested by supervisor; communicate updates with supervisor and key stakeholders.

      • Leverage educational technologies, particularly institutionally-supported tools, to enhance course content and delivery.

      • Review completed courses using an instrument grounded in best practices to ensure a quality design. Ensure that instructional materials and courses are compliant with accessibility requirements.

      • Employ Universal Design and inclusive teaching best practices in the design process.

      • Develop engaging learning assets, leveraging tools such as Articulate, video production, or other learning assets.

      • Support on-site video production when needed, including coaching faculty with preparing for and engaging in the recording process, including both the logistics of video creation as well as pedagogical best practices. Support post-production video editing and branding as needed. Collaborate with video studio technicians and remote IDs as needed.

      • Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in instructional design and educational technology, including engagement with the broader instructional design community.

      • Design and deliver professional development related to instructional design, which could include live sessions on LMS or other software, the development of asynchronous training materials, and/or digital asset management.

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field. Extensive experience with instructional design, in combination with a Bachelor’s degree, may substitute for the Master’s degree requirement.

      • 2 years of relevant experience required.

      • Solid knowledge of course design and pedagogy at the post-secondary level.

      • Experience designing online asynchronous materials for college courses and/or faculty development.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Building courses in a Learning Management System, particularly Moodle or Canvas;

      • Video production/editing experience;

      • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is a plus;

      • Articulate experience;

      • Quality Matters or a similar certification;

      WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      • This is an on-campus position that is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement;

      • 12-month position;

      • Office environment;

      • Occasional weekend or evening work to meet deadlines may be required;

      • Occasional travel to professional conferences;
