- Consult, train and serve as a resource to KNN Learning and Engagement team, additional Program Office team members and external KNN partners in the design of course and program curricula and pedagogies in all instructional modalities according to best practices – including intended learning outcomes, course content, curriculum alignment, development, evaluation and revision of teaching methods, learning outcomes, program curriculum and assessment strategies.
- Initiate and provide consultation and support to KNN Program Office subject matter experts and external partners for the creation of engaging learning activities that enhance learner retention and application.
- Collaborate with internal and external educators and subject matter experts to develop learning objectives and design content for courses, learning modules and resource materials that will be offered through KNN’s national learning consortium.
- Ensure that the KNN Framework for Flourishing is fully integrated into learning undertakings, learning experiences and instructional activities.
- Coordinate the incorporation of a variety of instructional methods to define and develop instructional materials, leveraging technology as a delivery method.
- Contribute as an expert in using emerging technologies such as AR/VR/XR and AI in the design and production of learning resources in variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video and animation with an emphasis on delivery of digital materials technologies to support curriculum development in support of data driven outcomes and learning-centered course design.
- Effectively manage multiple course and learning material development projects from inception to completion, in accordance with established instructional design and curriculum development processes and efficient time management while supporting collaborating team members and external partners to be informed and on task.
- Serve as a leader in maintaining up-to-date knowledge of emerging instructional methods in all instructional modalities.
- Serve as part of the KNN Learning and Engagement team in support of the national strategy to build a knowledge-sharing and practice community, identifying opportunities and gaps for learning experiences, proposing solution strategies, managing events and drafting documents, as needed.
- Collaborate with Senior Manager, Learning and Engagement and other Program Office colleagues to disseminate work emerging from consultations and collaborations in other areas of KNN engagement (e.g. presentations, publications, KNN Project Partners, KNN Bridging Initiative, KNN Group and Organizational Partner Engagement).

As an Instructional Designer Sr., you will, under the direction of the Kern National Network’s (KNN) Senior Manager of Learning and Engagement, consult and collaborate with the KNN Program Office colleagues and external partners to develop educational modules, courses, resources, and learning experiences for the KNN’s learning consortium centering the KNN Framework for Flourishing. As Instructional Designer Sr, provide subject matter expertise and best practices to contribute to the success of the Learning and Engagement team. Manage the design and delivery of instructional units consistent with the guiding principles for instructional design. Apply best evidence practices in education, curriculum, and learning and cognition in the instructional design process.
Responsibilities:
Competency-based Instructional Design: Apply (and explain/teach faculty to use) a systematic education design process to the development and implementation of competency-based educational units, complimented by knowledge/experience of aligning objectives with best ROI delivery method (e.g., F2F methods, eLearning, independent study).
Alignment of Competencies/Objectives with Methods: Demonstrated ability to select and use the optimal and sustainable instructional delivery methods and strategies (e.g., F2F including presentation, small group, 1-on-1, TBL/PBL, e-learning) to maximize efficiency/effectiveness for learner and instructor.
Teamwork, Communication and Technical Skills: Proven ability to build and sustain professional relationships with staff and faculty, serving as a team member and influence leader with subject matter experts and education staff. Excellent interpersonal communication skills across audience (faculty, technical staff) including ability to adapt education language to varied audiences (e.g., faculty, students, staff, community/public). Excellent computer skills with experience working in current content design and development systems.
Problem Solving: Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and prioritization skills during multi-tasking while retaining attentiveness to detail and professional approach. Ability to document and research information, and analyze and interpret a variety of data to identify trends and draw valid conclusions.
Scholarship: Demonstrated ability to stay up-to-date and apply new and emerging findings in the field of education, psychology, and business with a focus on competency-based, milestone approach to instructional design. Ability to work in collaboration with authorship team to translate “daily work” as educator into peer reviewed presentations/publications.
Project Management: Ability to organize work, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple projects with competing priorities and ability to follow-through.
