      Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
      Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) full time years of professional broadcast news engineering (Television Studio / Control Room) or multimedia production experience. Experience with photography, cameras and/or audio recorders. Experience in computer video editing and graphic programs.

      Preferred Qualifications:
      Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Journalism, Education, Technology or related field. Three (3) or more full-time years of professional experience. Additional years of broadcast news (Television Studio / Control Room) engineering or multimedia production experience. Experience in the Technical Direction/engineering of live broadcasts or web streams. Extensive experience with photography, video cameras and audio recorders. Experience in computer graphic and video editing programs. The ability to troubleshoot computer networking issues. Proficient understanding of Computer Newsroom Systems such as Ross Inception, Ross Streamline, AP ENPS. Experience in managing newsroom or project budgets. Experience in instructional support within education.

      Brief Description of Duties:
      Provide instructional support to faculty and students within the School of Communication and Journalism. Oversee all technological aspects (including computer classroom, broadcast studio and multimedia equipment) under the vision of the Dean of the School of Communication Journalism. Research innovative technology needs, facility engineering, network connectivity / design and support.

      Duties:

      Journalism Facilities Management:

      • Engineering, designing and implementation of all technology in the TV Studio as well as Control Room using Ross Carbonite and Xpresion Technologies with Tria Video Clip Server.
      • Manage the Newsroom Computer System.
      • Liaise with DoIT (Stony Brook University’s Division of Information Technology) to maintain network connectivity across campus for Audio, Video (NDI) and Data transport back to the School of Communication and Journalism (SoCJ) control room.
      • Oversee the operation, network and maintenance of the Newsroom - The SoCJ School’s Computer Classroom and Student Workspace.
      • Work with Faculty and Students during transitions into new or updated software and hardware.

      Classroom Instruction and Support:

      • Research best practices and develop new technologies that keep our students competitive when they enter the workforce by creating professional parallel experiences for the School's Undergraduate and Graduate students.
      • Keep the workflow current to ever-changing systems used professionally.
      • Train students in the operation of SoCJ technology by assisting Professors with in-class instruction.
      • Work closely with Communication and Journalism faculty and students in the production of their TV Studio weekly broadcast news shows and troubleshoot student production issues as they arise.
      • Educate and train faculty and students on proper use of the professional equipment in the Broadcast Studio as well as the camera and audio equipment they use for their class projects and assignments.
      • Assist students in the use of Adobe Premiere Pro and/or other multimedia software to edit their video assignments.
      • Educate faculty and students how to use the Newsroom computer system components which include: Ross Inception, Ross Streamline / Streamline Play and Ross Xpression Studio graphic System.

      Supervisory/Management:

      • Oversee the Student Equipment check in and check out room as well as hire and train student staff.
      • Delegate student worker responsibilities in the day-to-day operation and health of the student camera and audio equipment.

      Procurement:

      • Work with the Chair of the Journalism Department as well as the Procurement Office to purchase necessary equipment for student instruction and in the computer classroom (Newsroom) and TV Studio.
      • Work with external vendors to secure technological tools and products for class instruction at competitive rates.

      Alda Center Web and Media Development:

      • Provide Instructional Support in the campus studios located on campus and produce videos used for marketing, website content, events, etc.
      • Liaise with the Center’s Communications manager and curriculum development team in facility access as well as assistance with content creation as necessary.

      Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.


      Special Notes:
      This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

      In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
