Job Description
- Req#: 4494033
- Master's degree in special education or in a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university;
- Expertise in instructional and assistive technology for students with disabilities;
- Broad knowledge of K-12 special education;
- At least two years of K-12 teaching experience as a licensed special educator;
- Doctorate in Special Education or closely related field from an accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by August 2024;
- Evidence of scholarly research activity focused on mathematics and/or instructional and assistive technology;
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
- Experience providing professional development or university coursework for special educators;
- Broad knowledge of evidence-based practices in special education;
- Broad knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and technologies for learning;
- Knowledge of UHM special education teacher training programs;
- Experience teaching special education in Hawaii;
- Experience with nontraditional university student populations from racially/ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.

Other Conditions: State extramural funds. Appointment to begin August 2024. Renewal contingent upon satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and program needs. Selectee is required to pass a criminal background check and complete Title XI training.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach special education courses and supervise teacher candidates on all islands via a variety of delivery modes (in-person, distance); Participate in on-going curriculum and program development activities; provide service to the department and college; contribute to the University of Hawaii’s mission as being a Hawaiian place of learning. Other duties as assigned.
