      JOB SUMMARY

      Under the general supervision of the Water Treatment Manager, installs, tests, repairs, inspects, and maintains metering and recording instruments, controlling devices, data logging, and display equipment, communications, and telemetry systems. Works closely with the SCADA Analysts and Industrial Electricians to identify and complete proactive and reactive maintenance tasks. Performs related work as required.

      ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
      • Performs work under supervision from SCADA Analyst
      • Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, calibrates, and tests a wide variety of industrial instruments that record, indicate, control and regulate level, flow, pressure, temperature, position, and water analysis.
      • Calibrates, installs, and works with digital and analog signals along with 4 – 20 milliamp (mA) signals.
      • Installs, inspects, and repairs all types of types of radar sensors, Mag Meters, Venturi tubes, proximity sensors, level sensors, Variable Frequency Drives, and pressure sensors.
      • Makes periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all metering control instruments, diagnosing existing or potential trouble; cleans, lubricates, calibrates and adjusts as conditions indicate.
      • Locates, repairs, replaces and/or rebuilds defective electronic components such as transistors, printed circuits, resistors, capacitors, transformers, coils and relays.
      • Devises and installs new circuits and modifies equipment for use with existing equipment.
      • Inspects, Installs, and/or repairs manually, hydraulically, and electrically operated valves, making minor repairs as required.
      • Installs, repairs, and calibrates chemical feed equipment such as polymer, ammonia, and chlorine equipment.
      • Lays out, installs, test, and calibrates instruments and related devices for controlling automatic equipment for measuring flow, pressure, and temperature.
      • Repairs and maintains telemetry systems.
      • The majority of position duties are required to be performed on-site.
      • May work with outside contractors.
      • Prepares and updates schematic drawings of equipment.
      • Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency.
      • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      • Knowledge and understanding of general principles on which meters and other instruments operate for the measurement of flow, temperature, and pressure.
      • Knowledge of the theory, practice, material, tools and equipment of the fields of electronics and instrumentation.
      • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs).
      • Skilled in the use of associated electronic test equipment and computers.
      • Knowledge of analog and digital control circuitry.
      • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory as applied to intricate meters, automatic controls, radio telemetry and related instruments.
      • Knowledge in the principles of hydraulic, pneumatic, magnetic, electronic and complex controls.
      • Knowledge of the principles, practices and theory of hydraulics, pneumatic logic, magnetic induction, close and open loop with proportional derivative and integral control.
      • Ability to test, detect malfunctions, calibrate, and repair delicate equipment.
      • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
      • Ability to read specifications and blue prints.
      QUALIFICATIONS
      Education and Experience:
      Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Mathematics, Physics or Instrument/Controls Technology or three (3) years of highly automated electronics instrumentation installation and repair experience. An equivalent combination or related training and experience may substitute.
      Special Qualifications:
      For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida driver's license, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
      The work is generally medium and may require exerting up to 100 pounds of force rarely, and up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
      • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces.
      • Climbing: Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, scaffolding, or ramps.
      • Crawling: Ability to frequently move on hands and knees or hands and feet.
      • Crouching: Ability to frequently bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
      • Feeling: Ability to perceive attributes of objects by touch.
      • Dexterity: Primarily with fingers, as in picking, pinching, or typing.
      • Grasping: Applying pressure with the whole hand.
      • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working with the whole hand.
      • Hearing: Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
      • Kneeling: Ability to frequently bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
      • Lifting: Ability to lift and move objects
      • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions.
      • Pulling / Pushing: Ability to occasionally move objects up to 100 pounds.
      • Reaching: Ability to frequently extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
      • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
      • Speaking / Talking: Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and concisely through speech.
      • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
      • Stooping: Ability to frequently bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
      • Visual Acuity: Ability to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, operating motor vehicles; including color, depth perception, and field vision. Must have normal color vision.
      • Walking: Ability to walk long distances to perform tasks and to move from one job site to another.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT
      Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Work may be performed in both in and out-of-door environments with exposure to the wind, rain, cold, heat and cramped spaces.
