What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Deliver excellent customer service to patients through participation in Insurance Authorization management
- Obtain necessary insurance specialty referral and outpatient authorizations
- Ensure all necessary documentation and information is in patients' EMR (Epic) to obtain approval from insurance companies
- Document all proper authorizations in patients' EMR (Epic) for retrospective and prospective non-Atrius specialty referrals and ancillary services
- Handle a variety of referral and authorization-related issues while staying current on policies and procedures of various insurance payors
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution
- Preferred three years’ experience in an insurance, clinical, and/or customer service setting
- At least one year in a position equivalent to the Medical Secretary II preferred
- Computer experience required
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Associate’s degree or certification in medical assisting may be preferred
- Familiarity with insurance coverage and healthcare terminology
- Excellent research capabilities on the internet to determine insurance benefits and find provider information
- Ability to explain referral requirements to both staff and patients
- Experience working in a busy and demanding environment with a high level of detail
