      WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

      La Joya ISD is seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven Insurance Specialist to coordinate and support employee insurance programs across the district. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, excellent organization, and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion. This role supports all staff by providing timely, accurate information on insurance products, resolving benefit concerns, and ensuring compliance with district and federal regulations.

      Education/ Certification:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      • Knowledge of group health, life, and voluntary insurance plans
      • Ability to communicate insurance details clearly to employees
      • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
      • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
      • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

      Experience:

      • Minimum of one (1) year experience in payroll, employee benefits, or insurance administration
      • Experience using insurance, benefits, or HR software platforms preferred

      Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      Insurance Program Support

      • Prepare, verify, and maintain benefit and insurance deductions for accuracy
      • Assist employees with group health, dental, life, and voluntary benefit claims and inquiries
      • Serve as the liaison between employees and insurance carriers to resolve issues and discrepancies
      • Process insurance enrollment forms, changes, terminations, and COBRA documentation in accordance with federal law (COBRA, HIPAA, ACA)
      • Maintain insurance records and manage employee files with updated benefit information

      Employee Support and Communication

      • Conduct weekly or monthly new employee insurance orientation meetings
      • Support annual open enrollment by assisting employees, preparing materials, and coordinating with vendors
      • Respond to employee insurance questions in a timely and professional manner
      • Assist in developing and maintaining a district benefits handbook and other reference materials
      • Educate staff about the scope of district-paid and voluntary insurance offerings

      Compliance and Coordination

      • Monitor eligibility and ensure timely communication of required benefit notices
      • Work with the accounting team to verify premium billing and resolve discrepancies
      • Maintain accurate insurance data and assist in the preparation of reports for auditing or compliance
      • Ensure insurance procedures align with district policies and applicable laws

      Collaboration and Reporting

      • Coordinate with payroll, human resources, and business office personnel for deductions and records
      • Assist the Benefits Coordinator and/or Director of Human Resources with projects and vendor relations
      • Help compile reports and data for strategic planning and budgeting in the area of employee benefits

      Working Conditions and Mental Demands

      • Location: Human Resources Office with frequent campus and department contact
      • Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting; light lifting; regular use of computer and phone systems
      • Environmental Conditions: Normal office environment; fast-paced and customer-facing
      • Mental Demands: High attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines; maintain emotional control during high-demand seasons (e.g., open enrollment)
