- Gathers pertinent information from systems and/or clinicians to present clear, accurate information to the insurance companies as needed.
- Verifies patient insurance benefits on all potential clients.
- Demonstrate the ability to control and direct conversations in an effective manner.
- Demonstrate knowledge of psychological and medical terminology.
- Demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively handle and defuse crisis situations.
- Work closely with the front desk receptionists to manage clients and families at Peninsula Behavioral Health facilities.
- Be able to demonstrate knowledge regarding chemical dependency, withdrawal symptoms, and medical complications associated with detoxification in order to assess a client’s need and obtain authorizations as appropriate.
- Assist by suggesting appointments with appropriate Peninsula Behavioral Health facilities depending upon the clinical information that is gathered.
- Provide clinics with information regarding requirements of insurance companies.
- Assist professionals in the community with information and referral to appropriate psychiatric and chemical dependency programs.
- Present clinical information to insurance companies for pre-certification of varying levels of care.
- Notify clinic registration departments if there are any changes in insurance coverage or policy.
- Check and respond to emails in a timely manner.
- Communicate and obtain information from access center and clinics when insurance information is incomplete.
- Discuss and explain current processes and be able to suggest process improvements.
- Accurately compile, complete, and distribute excel worksheets with department information.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical and clinical exclusionary criteria for all Peninsula Behavioral Health programs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Medical Staff and Nursing policies related to admission of patients.
- Communicate effectively and accurately with employees regarding new admissions and medical necessity.
- Enter or update patient information in the computer system.
- Routinely interface with the Business Office staff to ensure the accurate collection of financial information on all clients.
- Verify and complete daily delayed claims and reports.
- Make additional copies of paperwork supplies or notify the Office Supervisor if they are to be ordered.
- Performs other duties as necessary as determined by training and experience.
- Observes patient’s rights to confidentiality and adheres to the Covenant Health employee code of conduct.

Knox Clinic:
This clinic is located at 1451 Dowell Springs Blvd in Knoxville, Tennessee and is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. We provide mental health services for those experiencing psychiatric illnesses or symptoms. Our team of mental health professionals provide:
Position Summary:
Position is responsible for verifying patient insurance benefits on all potential clients. Obtain authorization for treatment from insurance companies using clinical information from electronic medical record. Accurately enters data of benefits and authorizations into multiple systems for communication and billing purposes. Update insurance information prior to billing. Responsible for maintaining the delayed claims database and various reports to ensure correct and timely data. Works closely with clinic registration departments, business office, and access center to resolve insurance questions and issues. Spend majority of time on the phone or working from a computer. Helps foster a positive image of Peninsula Behavioral Health through communication within the Covenant Health System and the community.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field or four (4) or more years experience may be substituted.
Minimum Experience:
One (1) year experience in a health setting or in insurance. Experience in residential or outpatient care preferred.
