Job Description

- Technical BS degree or greater required, with strong preference for Electrical or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics
- JD from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law in at least one US state
- Registered to practice before the USPTO
- Minimum of 2 years combined experience as outside and/or in-house patent attorney with experience in novelty searching and evaluation, drafting and prosecuting US patent applications, and instructing foreign patent counsel
- Firm knowledge of USPTO patent prosecution practice
- Ability to build rapport with both business clients and legal partners
- Ability to work in a remote arrangement, with some limited travel to Dearborn, Michigan and other locations
- Excellent judgment, strong strategic and analytical thinking, and ability to balance multiple competing projects
- Ability to distill complex information into business language
- Assertive self-starter with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Prior experience as an engineer or scientist in a technical role
- Law firm experience
- Experience prosecuting patent applications on vehicle-related subject matter
- Experience with battery research, development, design, or manufacturing
- Experience in USPTO post-grant proceedings or IP litigation support
- Eastern time zone
- Oversee prosecution of domestic and global patent matters, including managing outside patent prosecution counsel.
- Coordinate and review patent research and analysis projects, including prior art searches, competitive intelligence, landscapes, patentability analyses, portfolio analyses, infringement/non-infringement analyses, and validity/invalidity analyses.
- Coordinate and manage invention disclosure review and patent harvesting projects, including working with other in-house patent professionals in managing prosecution matters from invention review all the way through maintenance fee decisions.
- Provide IP support for litigation and patent office proceedings as required.
Generate and provide internal education and training sessions related to IP to various technical groups.

Ford Office of the General Counsel is undergoing transition, and the Intellectual Property Attorney will have a chance to be an integral part of these changes at part of Ford Global Technologies within OGC. The Intellectual Property Attorney will also have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge automotive technology as part of Ford Global Technologies. The IP Attorney will implement IP strategies to foster and protect Ford's innovations. The Intellectual Property Attorney will further work within Ford Global Technologies to implement IP strategies that support the broader business objectives of Ford Motor Company.Qualifications
