      Description

      HPE Legal is changing the game of how a large corporate legal department delivers legal services. One part of that “game changing” culture is the New Attorney Program. HPE hires attorneys directly out of law school and gives them opportunities to work on a diverse range of matters with other Legal members, many of whom are performing substantive legal work at a much faster rate than their peers in law firms.

      Through specific practice group legal work, our new attorneys receive a broad, practical foundation through hands-on project work, exposure to a variety of experiences, and innovative training & development.

      Talent is the heart and soul of a great company and recruiting top talent through the New Attorney Program is a critical component of our Talent Factory.

      Requirements

      • Candidates should have graduated law school before the start date.
      • Academically accomplished – HPE requires candidates to have excellent academic credentials.
      • Strong communication skills – HPE requires excellent communication skills (oral and written). Our attorneys frequently interact with more senior HPE attorneys, outside attorneys, and business executives.
      • Interpersonal skills and professional demeanor – Successful candidates will have strong interpersonal skills to enable effective work with internal clients and other attorneys in a team-oriented partnership.
      • Game changing attitude – Success at HPE requires the flexibility to accept new and different challenges in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.
      • Technical degree - HPE strongly prefers IP candidates with degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Physics. IP candidates not having one of these degrees must be exceptionally strong in other areas (here we consider applicants with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science).
      • Demonstrated patent law interest - HPE requires IP candidates to have a demonstrated interest in patent law. This requirement is typically satisfied with patent-law-related summer associate or law clerk experience, passage of the USPTO agent exam, significant patent law academic work, or a combination of these. Patent Examiner experience is highly valued.
      • Intellectual property law principles - A working knowledge of intellectual property law principles is required of all IP candidates.
      • Patent application drafting experience - HPE sees patent application drafting experience positively, but does not require this experience in our IP candidates. We do, however, see it as a plus for otherwise well-qualified IP candidates.

      Additional Skills:

      Accountability, Accountability, Action Planning, Active Learning, Active Listening, Bias, Business, Coaching, Computer Literacy, Conflict Resolutions, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Data Analysis Management, Data Collection Management, Design Thinking, Empathy, Follow-Through, Growth Mindset, Intellectual Curiosity, Law, Legal Consulting, Legal Practices, Legal Risk, Legal Support, Long Term Planning {+ 5 more}
