      The Mokena School Board seeks a visionary leader who is adept at successfully managing district resources while engaging the staff and community in efforts leading to continual improvement in all aspects of its educational program. This elementary district serves 1530 students. The position will begin July 1, 2024 and end on June 30, 2025. Minimum Qualifications: Experienced administrator with strength in planning, curriculum development, and facilities Exemplary interpersonal skills to enable the promotion of district goals throughout the community Ability to listen and assimilate the ideas and concerns of many into an attractive and coherent vision for educational excellence Current knowledge of educational funding sources Proven leader committed to academic excellence Outstanding communications skills General Administrative License with Superintendent endorsement Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as an Assistant Superintendent or Principal Current Illinois Teacher’s Licensure Accountable to: Board of Education Primary Objective: Administer and manage the District schools in accordance with Board of Education policies and directives, along with state and federal law, in alignment with the Board-adopted strategic plan Evaluation: Per Board of Education Policy 3:40 General School Administration: Superintendent Essential Job Functions: Promote and maintain a positive district climate with all stakeholders Exercise the authority to develop rules and procedures that manage and direct the affairs of the school in accordance with the policies and regulations established by the Board Responsible for recommending school policies, plans and programs and otherwise preparing and presenting facts and explanations necessary to assist the Board in its duty of determining policy for the operation of the schools Provide the board with policy compliance metrics Attend all meetings of the Board and Board committees Make recommendations to the Board concerning building plans and sites Direct the development of the annual budget for its adoption by the Board Administer the budget as enacted by the Board, acting in accordance with the legal requirements and adopted policies of the Board Submit to the Board for approval a school calendar for the ensuing school year Recommend for appointment, election or employment, all employees of the Board, filling vacancies on the basis of experience, competence, and qualifications Assign, transfer, and recommend for promotion or dismissal any or all employees of the Board Develop and maintain a system of curriculum review Recommend to the Board for approval the selection of textbooks, instructional materials, and courses of study Provide creative leadership and vision to all professional employees and the Board Represent the schools before the public, maintaining such a program of publicity and public contacts to serve the improvement of understanding of the schools, keeping the public informed as to the activities and needs of the schools See that all laws and state regulations governing the schools are effectively carried out Evaluate all district administrators and building principals Responsible for the evaluation of each employee and delegate assistance in such evaluation procedures as is deemed necessary Report matters to the Board of Education in cases of neglect of duty by any employee, inefficiency, incompetence, or willful violation of the policies of the Board of Education and/or the Illinois School Code Call teachers’ meetings for the purpose of conferring with the teachers in respect to the best methods of instructions and other items of mutual concern Be the final authority in all matters of instruction and discipline, subject only to revision by the Board Submit to the Board weekly reports on all matters deemed worthy of being brought to the attention of the Board Prepare and submit to the Board an annual report of the conditions, progress, and needs of the schools as required by the Board Be held strictly responsible to the Board for the proper functioning of the school system Maintain an up-to-date knowledge on the use of the latest technology successfully implemented in an educational environment Fulfill any additional responsibilities assigned by the Board or required by law Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking. Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 30 lbs. Working Conditions: Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
