Job Title: Intermediate Piping Designer

Job Description

Our client, an EPC company, is seeking an intermediate piping designer to support our team in Calgary, AB. The ideal candidate will be looking to grow into a Lead position over the coming years.

Responsibilities

• Analyze design problems and prepare design sketches.
• Prepare design specifications and generate complex AutoCAD drawings.
• Coordinate with Project Engineers on design information and standards.
• Evaluate, select, and apply standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications on medium complexity projects.
• Apply discipline-specific design criteria, codes, standard practices, and design theory.
• Deliver detailed AutoCAD drawings of medium complexity using specifications, calculations, vendor data, and detailed instructions, applying established drafting standards.
• Review the work of less experienced staff and check drafting/output.
• Ensure successful delivery of Design Drafting outputs by the drafting project team—on time, to the required standard, and within budget.
• Troubleshoot and work with stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Escalate significant issues to the Drafting Manager.
• Ensure a safe workplace environment in adherence to company and legislated safety standards.
• Meet deadlines in a highly demanding, fast-paced oil & gas environment.
• Ensure timely completion of project goals within budget and in accordance with quality standards and customer needs and expectations.
• Provide support, motivation, and encouragement to the team.
• Maintain professional communication with clients, peers, and contractors.

Essential Skills

• Certificate in Piping and Design (or equivalent)
• Expert knowledge of AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and CADWorx
• 4 - 7 years’ experience working on the design and drafting of mechanical design projects, preferably within the oil and gas industry
• Ability to run small projects independently

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Engineering Design and Drafting Diploma (preferred)
• Knowledge of CAD/CADWorx Administration (Spec, Editor/ISOGEN Setup, Lisp, Scripts, etc.)
• Understanding of and experience with industry-related design software, such as bluebeam, navisworks, laser scan, ISOGEN, and LISP
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, equipment requirements, and specifications
• Understanding of processes common in the oil and gas industry
• Knowledge of discipline-specific equipment and materials
• Ability to comply with standards and procedures in Health & Safety Manual and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
• Highly motivated and quick learner

Work Environment

The office environment is easy-going and team-oriented, with limited hierarchies. Feedback and communication with senior staff are encouraged. The team engages in various activities such as bowling and softball, and the office features a games room with beverages.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $75.00/hr.
