      Job Summary

      Canadian National is one of the nation’s class 1 rail transportation companies. The CN operates across Canada and the United States, serving several major container ports and creates connections to other rail carriers. As an intermodal clerk you would work closely with a variety of truck drivers performing daily ingates/outgates transactions via gate software. A clerk will also perform customer service duties that include assisting drivers, phone calls, and email responses. Intermodal clerks will also work directly with Terminal Managers, Terminal Coordinators and several other departments. Clerks will provide train journals in order to ensure that train crews have the proper documentation to travel safely and efficiently across our network. The ideal candidate requires strong customer service skills as well as basic computer skills including a minimum typing speed of 45 wpm and have a courteous telephone manner. Candidates should be comfortable multi-tasking in a fast paced environment and must be able to prioritize work and make logical decisions in a timely manner. Being bilingual is an asset.

      Major Responsibilities

      - Driver Ingate & Outgate issue investigation

      - Manual Ingate & Outgate resolutions (as required)

      - In-Lane assistance with drivers including but not limited to CN distributions

      - Resolve billing Issues

      - Assist with driver Modalpass (App)

      - Driver phone and minor kiosk repairs & troubleshooting

      - Customer service calls and emails

      - Enforce hazardous regulations compliance

      - Perform record keeping and tracking

      - Maintain safety expectations outlined for the position both indoor and outdoor

      - Other duties as assigned which may include but not limited to

      o Inspection of yard containers and trailers and chassis

      o Enter container movements in SRS system

      o Answer phones and communicate with train managers, yard supervisors, terminal and loading coordinators and customers.

      o Process and update waybills; customs and transborder transactions

      Working Conditions

      Intermodal clerks are required to work in an office environment as well as an outdoor environment on a more limited basis. Being prepared for all weather conditions is important. Intermodal clerks are required to 40hrs a week and sometimes more depending on the business need. Shift work is required with the scheduling determined by assignment.

      Requirements

      · A high school diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education is a plus

      · Intermodal operations run 24/7 and require regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of the position.

      · Good customer service, communication, organization, and computer skills.

      · Candidate must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in as fast paced environment. Strong leadership skills

      · Experience working with both owner operator and employee drivers a plus but not required.

      · Adaptability with procedures and processes

      · CN is a drug free environment and applicants must submit to a drug test if selected.

      · If selected candidate will be agreeing to junction with TCU (Transportation Communication Union)

      Training

      Candidates will be given 60 days of on-site training. There will be weekly follow ups to evaluate the progress of the employee. After 60 days the candidate will be required to pass a written and online test in order to move into a permanent role.
