      The Intern – Development Services Engineering is a full-time employee that assists in performing entry-level engineering principles and practices in fire protection engineering and civil engineering to meet the internship requirements of a school or University.

      Essential Functions

      • Assists the fire protection engineering group in reviewing design plans for compliance with fire codes, building codes, state regulations, special use permit requirements, and other City ordinances,
      • Assists the civil engineering group reviewing design plans for compliance with City design manuals to develop and maintain the public infrastructure of the City of Dallas.
      • Aids, assists, and supports department or assistant department heads in obtaining information on existing problems to map out strategies to resolve them.
      • Develops rules and regulations, assesses needs, implements, and improves new or existing procedures, and coordinates various activities to assist department or division.
      • Participates in finding solutions to existing problems and discusses proposals with administrative personnel in planning and executing administrative functions, special events and public relations activities to acquire skills in problem solving as part of a good internship program.
      • Performs and assists in engineering and construction to supplement knowledge gained through academic courses.
      • Prepares periodical reports on the progress of the project under way to enable evaluation of performance.
      • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

      Currently enrolled in an accredited Engineering program with a college or University.
