      Job Description

The Vertex Internship Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. You will be working closely with and learning from some of the brightest people in the industry. When you join our internship program you should not be surprised to see that our environment is one that is innovative and team oriented, where collaboration is not just a word, and "we are relentless" is in everything we do. Students can expect to be challenged by their project plan, connect with other interns, and feel valued by the Vertex community. Not only will interns learn about their day-to-day tasks through their specific work assignments, but they will interact and have exposure to our organizational leaders and their teams.

      Job Summary:

The DMPK-Bioanalysis group is looking for a summer 2024 intern to help develop a quantitative LC-MS assay to measure all subclasses of human Immunoglobulin G (IgG) in plasma. Antibodies such as IgG are frequently used in antibody-drug-conjugate (ADC) delivery systems. A universal IgG LC-MS method would have utility in preclinical development of ADCs. Our group is responsible for the development of novel quantitative LC-MS methods to measure drug candidates in biological matrices. Specific goals for this position include the identification of universal signature peptides across all human IgG subclasses, optimization of proteolytic digestion conditions and sample preparation conditions to yield maximum desired peptides, and optimization of the LC-MS/MS conditions necessary to develop and produce a robust and reproducible bioanalytical method in preclinical species.

      Key Responsibilities:

Day to day responsibilities include performing literature searches, learning large molecule digestion workflows, testing different protease combinations to yield signature IgG peptides, operation and maintenance of a triple quadrupole LC-MS/MS system, development and optimization of chromatographic methods, and collection and reporting of results comparing test conditions. Summarize key experiments of the method development in a scientific poster.

      Qualifications:

      • The ideal candidate will be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in chemistry or related field who has completed introductory coursework in instrumental analysis
      • The candidate must be well organized, manage time effectively, and be enthusiastic to learn about liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Any previous experience using HPLC or LC-MS is a plus.
      • Legally authorized to work in the United States
      • Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating Spring 2024

This job posting is for a temporary role with a third-party agency partner that provides services to Vertex. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of that third-party agency; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by the third-party agency upon offer.
