      JOB SUMMARY:

MGT is a national leader in public sector management consulting and services that delivers diverse business consulting services to a wide range of public sector groups. Our mission is to impact communities for good. Celebrating our 49th year in 2023, we attract exceptional talent and empower them to exceed client expectations as they navigate the dynamic demands of public agency performance.

Kitamba, part of our Education Solutions Group, is dedicated to dramatically improving learning and life outcomes for all children. We believe that great public schools and high-quality education have the potential to be life-changing, especially for students in underserved communities. We partner with leaders in government, philanthropy, and other education organizations and draw on our experience in the education space to solve complex problems facing public schools and communities. We deliver customized services and products - including data, finance, and instructional tools - from initial design through the last step of execution.

The Kitamba Summer Internship (KSI) is a full-time, 10-week paid program over the summer for college juniors and seniors. KSI aims to expand the diversity of thinking, experiences, and identities within the social impact consulting field and provide interns with the training and opportunities to build foundational skills and work on actual projects and initiatives. The internship will be a hybrid opportunity in our New York Office from June to August 2024.

      WHO WE ARE:

At Kitamba, we believe that all children have the right to a high-quality education. Our work is dedicated to advancing equity in our education system and dramatically improving learning and life outcomes for all children. We live out our mission through the following values:

      • Solutions for Impact: We are laser focused on crafting sustainable solutions that will positively impact students. We work nimbly and creatively to solve challenges with our partners.
      • Equity in Practice: We lead by example to cultivate spaces where all learners can thrive. We communicate with transparency, embody diversity and inclusivity, and are steadfast in our commitment to creating equitable opportunities for all children.
      • Partnership and Collaboration: We co-create with our partners from start to finish, weaving together the wisdom already in the room with the learnings we bring to the table.
      • Learning and Growth: We embrace a growth mindset to learn from our partners and each other so that we can apply our knowledge to meet their needs.
      • People First: Our culture is joyful, inclusive, and authentic. We celebrate our diversity and empower our team members to pursue their individual goals and growth as we seek to maximize our collective impact.
      • Our ethos is that it is going to take the “kitchen sink” to meaningfully impact communities, schools and students. Most of our efforts are focused on creating access and equity for communities who have historically been underserved by school systems. This approach requires a diversity of thinking. At Kitamba, we welcome different experiences and perspectives because we know that our team -- and our work -- is stronger for having a wide representation of cultural, political, and educational beliefs.

Our ethos informs our DEI statement:

Building equity in education and on our team. Education is the pathway to an inclusive world. Our team’s diverse experiences inform our collective purpose: to create opportunities for every student to thrive.

At Kitamba, we continually strive to:

      • Advocate for voices that are not always represented.
      • Learn from the communities we serve.
      • Lean into discomfort, actively listen, and seek to understand.
      • Create space for every Kitamban to contribute and grow.

      MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Interns will shadow current Consultants or Senior Consultants at Kitamba, working alongside members of our teams to execute client work such as managing project plans and preparing meeting materials, building knowledge of project and client management. Interns will have opportunities to research, analyze data, and collaborate to generate impactful solutions.

Interns will meet weekly for 90-120 minute training sessions during the internship. These trainings will provide broad exposure to social impact consulting and Kitamba-developed tools (e.g., Bento). • Conducting research and data analysis
      • Professional writing and communications
      • Foundational project management

Through mentorship opportunities, interns will also have formal opportunities to connect with Kitamba staff and leaders across the education sector. Finally, interns will also have an opportunity to complete a capstone project to apply the resources and skills they have learned throughout the internship to a problem of practice.
