Job Description

- Aid in the completion of research, assessments, reports, and calculations under instruction from senior geologists, engineers, and/or scientists.
- Compile and manage field data to be used in project work.
- Undertake as needed field work, including construction observation as well as water, soil, and air sampling, and other field reconnaissance.
- Coordinate with senior level staff and/or multidisciplinary team members to ensure that the project’s needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
- May be delegated responsibility for designing and implementing projects within competencies and experience.
- Follow established safety standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure safety of yourself and your teams while completing assignments.
- Highly motivated and dependable.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction.
- Willingness to learn new skills while undertaking work assignments.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (AutoCAD experience a plus).
- Strong technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel regionally and locally as required for project needs.
- Ability to life and move items and equipment up to 25 lbs.
- Current 40-hour OSHA Hazwoper training a plus.
- Must have a safe driving record and valid driver’s license.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an intern to support our team of environmental professionals at a full-time project office in Northwest Indiana and our Stantec office in Lombard, IL. As an intern you can expect to carry out a variety of different tasks related to environmental investigation, compliance, and remediation. You will support eh completion of project level work including data management, field work, report preparation, and design components on environmental remediation projects. Significant decisions and deliverables reviewed by higher level staff.
As a full-time intern you will work at our project office in Northwest Indiana approximately 40 hours/week during the summer. You will also coordinate with local offices including our Lombard, IL and Okemos, MI offices (either remotely or in person depending on logistics). Work hours may exceed 40 hours per week when conducting summer field work.

Education and Experience
Working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related engineering or scientific field.
Junior or Senior status preferred.Typical office environment includes working with computers and working at a desk for extended periods of time. Candidate must be willing and have the ability to travel and spend time working away from home or office. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
