      Intern/Co-op, Field Service Automation/QCS
      Remote

      Summary:
      The Intern/Co-op, Field Service – Automation/QCS position will support ongoing projects related to industrial automation systems, logic controls, and quality control systems (QCS) within paper manufacturing operations. The role will work closely with Automation Engineers, QCS Specialists, and the VP of Service to help configure, test, and troubleshoot control systems, sensors, scanners, and associated hardware/software. The position is both technical and hands-on, with opportunities to learn PLC logic, control loop tuning, and system diagnostics.

      The ideal candidate should be an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or Mechatronics. The applicant should have strong analytical and programming skills, a basic understanding of control systems, and an interest in working with both hardware and software in an industrial environment.

      Responsibilities:
      • Assist Field Service Experts with QCS equipment such as scanners, sensors, and control interfaces
      • Support PLC/DCS logic updates, testing, and system integration
      • Help document control logic, functional descriptions, and instrumentation configuration
      • Participate in troubleshooting and loop tuning for automation systems
      • Support system calibration, optimization, and performance evaluation
      • Work with a mentor from the Service team on a defined project
      • Present a final project review to peers and management

      Required Skills/Abilities:
      • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
      • Basic understanding of PLCs, DCS systems, and industrial instrumentation
      • Interest or experience in automation logic, programming, or control theory
      • Comfortable working with technical documentation and functional diagrams
      • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with tools such as Excel and basic logic editors is a plus
      • Ability to travel 60% of the time

      Education and Experience:
      • Undergraduate or graduate student working toward their degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or Mechatronics

      Physical Requirements:
      • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
      • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
      • Service work consists of considerable time on and around machinery including paper machines. You must be comfortable in an industrial environment. Some lifting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and balancing is necessary.
