      Job Summary:

      The Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated student intern! The groundwater modeling section is seeking a paid intern to assist with groundwater modeling tasks and research for ADWR’s regional-scale MODFLOW models.

      This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

      Job Duties:

      The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

      Research hydrologic and geologic concepts to create conceptual models for study areas, complete GIS tasks and analysis to aid senior modelers, help with data analysis for various model inputs, review input data and calculations for accuracy, technical writing to document workflows.

      Schedule: Hours will vary from 20 hours per week up to 40 hours per week. A hybrid work schedule (some work in the office and some work from home) is available for this position.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

      The ideal candidate should have:

      • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication, and organizational skills.
      • Desire to learn and be part of a fast-paced group dynamic.
      • Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word.
      • Knowledge of hydrologic and geologic principles.
      • Ability to analyze and interpret aerial imagery and topographic maps.
      • Ability to analyze and interpret historical documentation.
      • Familiarity with information sources, research methods, and techniques utilized in water resources.
      • ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro experience preferred but not required.

      MODFLOW experience preferred but not required.

      Selective Preference(s):

      Pre-Employment Requirements:

      Candidates must be enrolled in school and pursing a degree in Hydrology, Water Resource Management, Geology, Geography, Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.
