- Gain valuable paid work experience in the field of academic study or interest which includes the completion of a project to add to your resume. Possible academic credit may be awarded from participating colleges or universities.
- The intern will review 10 years of wildlife and plant photographs from East Bay Parks and organize them into a hierarchical taxonomic system. This involves identifying and classifying species based on their relationships and characteristics.
- Through this project, the student will develop skills in species identification by learning to recognize distinguishing features, habitat preferences, and behavioral traits. The product will serve as photo archival documentation of biodiversity for the East Bay Regional Park District.
- They will also deepen their understanding of taxonomy and phylogeny, essential for grasping biodiversity and evolutionary processes.
- Additionally, the intern will gain insights into California ecosystems, learning about the diverse flora and fauna, ecological interactions, and environmental factors.
- Undergraduate or Graduate Student studying Biology, Ecology or Environmental Science, or related field required.
- Phylogeny, Taxonomy, or Biodiversity are preferred and highly encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of plant and animal phylogeny, taxonomy, and biodiversity is preferred.
- Photo editing skills also highly desirable.
- Ability to investigate and analyze situations, plan and organize research.
- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Ability to follow instructions and to maintain harmonious working relations with fellow employees and the public
- Must pass a Level 1 background check, which includes a criminal history background review.

OUR VALUES:
The Park District is currently recruiting for an Intern in our Interpretive and Recreation Department. This position is located at the Doug Siden Crab Cove Visitor Center in Alameda, CA.
The proposed schedule for this internship is working up to 16 hours per week for the duration of the Fall Program which runs from 9/1/24 through 12/31/24 . The exact start and end dates for each internship will be based on the completion of a background check and availability.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
License: Must possess a valid California driver’s license. This requirement may be waived at the discretion of the General Manager for disabled or other applicants where the projects are such that a valid California Driver’s License would not be necessary.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
