      The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic university, rooted in the African continent with an increasing global reach. UWC actively responds in critical and creative ways to the development needs of the country, within an ever-changing and challenging global context.

      The Department of Higher Education and Training seeks to provide 3000 unemployed university graduates employment and on the job training opportunities in the higher education sector, as part of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) - Higher Education Employment Initiative (HEEI), which forms part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus (PES), seeking to mitigate the devastating economic challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

      Youth between the ages of 18 and 35, who are currently unemployed, not studying full-time, did not participate in our previous Intern: PYEI/PES programme nor receiving any form of a government grant (including NSFAS); woman and young people living with disability, are eligible and encouraged to apply for this enriching experience. Candidates selected for placement will have an opportunity to receive on the job training on various skills that will equip them for future employment opportunities.

      UWC is pleased to announce that the recruitment process for UWC Interns in the specified disciplines of the Higher Education Employment Initiative will open on 06 February 2024 and closes on 23 February 2024.

      To qualify for placement in the Internship programme, you must have completed your qualification (Higher Certificate, Diploma or Degree) at UWC (including students who will be graduating in April 2024). Applicants in a debt repayment agreement for fees owed to the university may also apply. This opportunity is only available to South African Citizens and permanent residents (kindly attach a certified copy of your identity document/permanent residence permit to your online application).

      To work in the university environment, you must have an excellent ability to work with people and within groups, have good communication skills, be a good listener, and be interested in serving the university community.

      All successful candidates will be placed in accordance with their specific field of study on graduate Internships at UWC for six months, from 01 June 2024 to 30 November 2024, for the following available opportunities in the following disciplines:
