- Build in vitro models and develop biological assays to demonstrate functional impacts and elucidate mechanisms of action for target triage and prioritization.
- Characterize and deconvolute immune and cancer cell phenotypes by assays including but not limited to conventional/spectral flow cytometry, western blots, cytokine arrays and/or multi-omics platforms.
- Contribute to assay/technology development of cutting-edge experimental approaches/techniques.
- Process and analyze data; interpret results in the context of the scientific goal.
- Participate in team and department meetings, and effectively collaborate with peers and fellow colleagues/researchers
- Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
- Program start dates are in May and June 2023.
- A stipend will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
- Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
- Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
- Final presentations of project work to senior leaders.
- Lead or participate in intern committees to design and coordinate program events and initiatives.
- Professional & personal development curriculum throughout the program, including networking opportunities, workshops, and panel discussions.
- Participate in volunteer projects, social events, and team-building activities.
- Current graduate students (Master's or PhD) who are available to work full time for the duration of the internship, OR Bachelor’s/Master's recent grads within 2 years of receiving their degree.
- Preferred majors: Cell / Molecular / Cancer Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biological engineering or related disciplines
- Detail-oriented and self-directed individuals with hand-on experience of molecular biology and cell biology techniques.

The Position
2024 Summer Intern – Translational Medicine – Oncology Reverse Translation
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented intern to join Genentech’s ground-breaking reverse translation efforts in molecular oncology. The Reverse Translation team focuses on leveraging clinical trial data to identify and validate novel mechanisms of resistance and response in support of early- and late-stage molecular oncology assets. The successful candidate will work directly with a scientist to complete a lab-based project and gain critical knowledge of the core techniques and biological assays necessary for successful target identification/validation in the early- and late-stage discovery pipeline. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate and engage with members of a highly collaborative, cross-functional team—including discovery, bioinformatics, and biomarker/clinical scientists across Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED).
This internship position is located in South San Francisco (on-site).

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $22.00 - $55.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
