Job Description

- Excellent knowledge of Canadian immigration law, regulations and policies as they pertain to international students, workers, and their accompanying family members.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant university policies and provincial legislation, including enrollment requirements, Leave of Absence policies, Visiting Research Students policies, FIPPA, Medical Services Plan and ESDC.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, communication, interview, and intercultural skills.
- Ability to exercise mature judgment, initiative, diplomacy, and tact. Ability to travel nationally to attend conferences.

Who We Are
As a division of Student Services, International Services for Students provides holistic programs and services to support the international, newcomer and refugee student experience at SFU and manages the University's Study Abroad Programs (formal exchange, study abroad, faculty-led field schools) with over 130 partners around the globe to facilitate transformative international and intercultural learning opportunities for SFU students.
About the Role
The International Student Immigration Advisor oversees the on-going development and implementation of university-wide immigration-related policies, procedures and retention-focused services that are aligned with the University’s strategic international enrollment management plans, while ensuring the University’s compliance with immigration law and related government agencies. The role provides counsel to the University community on the interpretation of the Immigration Act and its regulations pertaining to the recruitment and retention of international undergraduate, graduate, visiting research and exchange students.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, or a related discipline, and five years of related experience in areas such as in international education programming and student advising, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must meet the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requirements for certification as an Immigration Representative and active member with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA).
