      The Hennepin County Business Architecture team is seeking a student to participate in a part-time IT internship. The business architecture intern will assist the Business Architecture team with building the business architecture knowledgebase and maturing the business architecture practice.


      A Business Architect captures organizational information and models it from an enterprise-wide perspective. The modeled information is stored in a knowledgebase and software tool (Bizzdesign) and is used to support the strategic planning process and enterprise architecture domains by informing and enabling enterprise-wide planning, investment decisions, and data analytics, and helps to align business needs and IT services.

      This position requires a level 3 security check as a requirement for employment.

      Location and hours:

      This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. This internship will start in January 2025 and will last up to 2 years in duration. This intern will work approximately 20 hours/week.

      While this position is designated as remote, based on current requirements hires must be willing to relocate or reside in Minnesota.


      New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable after the new employee successfully completes probation.

      In this position, you will:
      • Apply business architecture discipline and practices, gained primarily through self-study and observation
      • Analyze and organize business information according to business architecture principles
      • Research and analyze Business Architecture Guild standards and best practices, recommend how the Business Architecture Team should adopt them for Hennepin County
      • Support the Business Architecture Team in facilitation and documentation

      Need to have:
      • Must be in one of the following:
        • Current enrollment for the academic school year of 2024-2025 in a bachelor's or master's degree program in IT, public policy, data analysis, public administration, business administration or another related field
        • Recent graduate (within 6 months) in a bachelor's or master's degree program in IT, public policy, data analysis, public administration, business administration or another related field
      • Access to reliable internet access and self-supported remote office space
