  PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  The following responsibilities describe the general nature of work for employees in this position, but this is not intended as an exclusive or all-inclusive inventory. This position is also responsible for the day-to-day project management and execution required to envision and initiate new video and audio projects in addition to managing and shepherding existing initiatives of the museum. This position requires a flexible schedule as projects often occur outside of traditional work hours.

  • Work closely with interpretation staff, curatorial staff, and the Director of the IMA to develop, produce, and create audio-visual content that executes interpretation goals and learning outcomes for collections, exhibitions, gallery experiences, historic properties, interpretation-based projects, and educational programs.
    • Produce and assemble multi-media content for online and in-gallery use including mobile tours, gallery interactives, and other interpretive content.
    • Produce and create video content that communicates the big idea (learning objectives) and goals of exhibition and permanent collection projects.
    • Produce, record, and edit artist and curatorial interviews.
    • Develop media schedules that support project timelines.
    • Collaborating with cross-departmental collaborative project team to determine audio-visual interpretive content's content and aesthetic direction.
    • Edit licensed and/or existing content for use in the gallery.
    • Implement ADA-compliant media standards like closed captioning.

  • Video capture
    • Capture of b-roll of galleries and patrons in galleries.
    • Documentation of exhibitions.
    • Capture seasonal aspects of Art & Nature Park and Garden to create educational and interpretive content.
    • Produce, record, and edit some lectures, symposiums, and programs that support the IMA goals.

  • Oversee equipment, recording studio, and media assets.
    • This position is responsible for the proper storage and retention of created media within the digital asset management system and servers according to Newfields approved workflows and standards to support long-term retention of assets.
    • Manage storage, maintenance, inventory, and care of audio-visual equipment.
    • Manage the organization and care of the recording studio.

  • Maintain close relationships with Newfields staff to manage highly collaborative efforts across multiple departments.
    • Work with AV Specialist, Interpretation, and Newfields Lab to ensure interpretive technology is working in the galleries and on campus.
    • Suggest media equipment and audio components for the galleries and interactives in collaboration with Collection Support, AV Specialist, and Newfields Lab, Design, and Curatorial staff.
    • Work with Newfields staff on highly collaborative team-based projects across departments.
    • Work across departments to capture and produce content used in an educational format.

  EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role or as an independent contractor
  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, media, or film is preferred but not required.

The employee must often lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  Work environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the position. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Will often include work in studios for recording audio or video, which could involve working with cameras, lighting, and sound equipment. On-location shoots are common, requiring travel to various places like outdoor settings, events, or specific sites related to production.
