- Assists in the procurement of inventory and non-inventory materials and supplies; works closely with supervisors, engineering staff, and division managers to ensure adequate stock is available.
- Obtains quotes and places orders; receives materials from vendors and checks for defects and compliance with specifications and quantities; contacts vendor to resolve problems; informs supervisors of issues. Monitors usage and purchases to ensure compliance with the State of Alabama Bid Law.
- Receives inventory into the electronic inventory management system; requires use of hands, forklift, or pallet jack to stock, rearrange, and/or stage material when received.
- Maintains records of all quotes, vendor contacts, etc., in required format for spot auditing and record keeping requirements.
- Assists with preparing for annual external audit.
- Delivers or directs the delivery of inventory items to crews in the field.
- Evaluates inventory levels and recommends changes of minimums and maximums to the Logistics Warehouse Supervisor; audits inventory under close supervision of supervisor and/or Inventory Control Tech II/III; prepares bi-weekly audit reports; researches and resolves discrepancies.
- Issues items to personnel and maintains related records; assists with purchasing stockroom items, as necessary.
- Pulls materials manually and issues materials electronically to work orders; works with crews and engineering staff to adjust material issued and/or returned, as needed.
- Evaluates, and determines suitability of restocking of unused materials when returned to the warehouse; recommends to the supervisor the adjustment of the electronic inventory records to reflect restocking.
- Works with Logistics Warehouse Supervisor to stage materials and supplies for special or large-scale projects.
- Meets with vendor representatives to discuss outstanding items and to remain informed of trends and lead times for frequently ordered materials.
- Prepares for and participates in staff meetings with supervisor; discusses discrepancies in inventory, vendor issues, and updates on projects.
- Participates in the routine maintenance and cleaning of a non-climate-controlled warehouse.
- Opens and secures warehouse daily. Reports any issues that need to be addressed promptly.
- Mandatory attendance during storms and/or events deemed an emergency; This could result in working outside of normal operating hours as determined to be necessary.
- During emergency events, performs necessary record keeping to assist with tracking of all materials for FEMA reimbursement and proper inventorying of materials.
- Performs related duties.

- The work consists of related warehouse and inventory control duties. The variety of materials to be inventoried contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to receive and issue materials while maintaining accurate inventory records. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of department operations.
- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, vendors, contractors, and the public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, motivate persons, and provide services.
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds, climbs structures and ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell and hearing.
- The work is performed in a stockroom, warehouse, or outdoors, in hot, cold, or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
- Graduation from standard senior high school or GED, as recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); and
- Two (2) years recent warehouse experience with electrical, water, and/or wastewater materials and supplies.
- Graduation from standard senior high school or GED, as recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); and
- Five (5) years recent warehouse experience with a computerized purchasing environment that consisted of auditing warehouse, addressing discrepancies, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory.
- Graduation from an accredited* college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- Graduation from an accredited* college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
- Certificate or satisfactory completion of Microsoft Excel course (or comparable course that includes spreadsheets) from an accredited* college or university preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. (PBA 9/10/01)
- In an emergency and/or standby situation, an employee in this position must be able to report to his/her regular workstation in a maximum of 30 minutes from the time of notification. (Sec. 2-30. (2) / PBA 1/9/95) This requirement must be met within six (6) months of employment/promotion /demotion/transfer.
- An employee in this position must be available to be contacted via phone within 30 days of employment/promotion/demotion/transfer, due to call out requirements.
- An applicant for this position is subject to various background investigations up to an including a criminal, credit, past employment, and reference checks.
- Employees are required to submit to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with the City of Dothan policy which includes pre-employment and random tests for the duration of employment in this position. (PBA 8/13/12)
- Must meet the City of Dothan employment physical standard, which includes drug/alcohol testing.
An employee in this position may promote to Inventory Control Technician II and Inventory Control Technician III.
This position provides technical support for department warehouse and inventory control functions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Logistics Warehouse Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include state bid laws, city purchasing guidelines, the city personnel handbook, the APPA Safety Manual, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
