      The opportunity

      The Risk division provides liability and risk expertise focused on long-term Total Fund investment, risk management and the governance framework. The Risk division is also charged with ensuring the Plan is sustainable, and that the funding risk is aligned to the Board's Risk Appetite Statement.

      Credit & Counterparty Risk Management (CCRM) in Risk includes two main functions: credit and counterparty risk analysis determining the acceptability of exposure to a given entity/group and advising investing peers on changes in derivative, secured financing and market infrastructure regulations that could impact how OTPP deploys capital.

      The Investment Associate will support the global credit risk analysis function at OTPP and become a subject matter expert on Financial Institutions Group (FIG) regulations within her/his assigned region of coverage along with Structured and Private Credit within the same region(s) .

      Who you'll work with

      This role will report to the Director in Credit & Counterparty Risk Management team.

      What you'll do

      This role will handle the following analytical aspects of counterparty credit risk:

      • Advise on credit terms in counterparty documentation.

      • Aid in the development of Fundamental and Market Implied Credit Risk Models

      • Understanding of Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques pertaining to Credit Risk

      • Ability to develop minimum viable products and proof of concepts for ML/NLP based credit models

      • Working experience with python analyzing time series, data storage and automation.

      • Working experience with creating interactive dashboards using Power BI

      • Provide inputs required for management and monitoring of credit risk and counterparty exposures against credit limits.

      • Provide credit input to other departments on new or complex derivatives and structured products with embedded credit risk.

      • Attribute the potential future exposure by counterparty and transaction.

      • Highlight the impact of changing regulations on these products.

      • Participate in management of internal and external relationships, primarily with the Investments Division Credit & Counterparty Committee, Capital Markets Relationship Stewards and counterparties, market infrastructures, brokers, regulators and rating agencies.

      • Ensure that counterparty credit risk is properly identified , analyzed and reported.

      • Perform credit assessments of new and review/monitoring of existing counterparties (primarily global financial institutions, exchanges, CCPs and other market infrastructures along with broker-dealers).

      • Perform credit assessments of new and review/monitoring of existing Structured and Private Credit transactions across multiple industries and the entire credit spectrum (IG to distressed)

      • Detect and escalate relevant market and regulatory credit risk issues to decision makers at OTPP.

      • Adhere to and remain apprised of global best practices in the assessment of counterparty credit risk.

      • Participate in internal initiatives to improve efficiency of credit risk processes.

      • Provide full support and back-up for the broader team for on credit risk related matters

      • Oversee the credit risk of a portfolio of highly regulated financial services companies and their regulators within a specific Region (Canada, USA, EMEA, Asia-Pac etc.)

      • The Investment Associate must be able to analyze the most complex financial institutions and defend her/his analysis to Senior Executives

      • Presentations to the Senior Credit Committee

      What you'll need

      • 3 - 6 years’ experience in credit analysis of financial institutions to assess counterparty/obligor credit risk in relation to derivatives and other complex structured credit products.

      • Prior Front Office Capital Markets negotiating/structuring experience is an asset.

      • Solid knowledge of financial markets/capital market dynamics and global banking

      • In depth knowledge of derivatives and structured credit products including pricing and Basel III/IV (FRTB) capital impacts on regulated financial institutions

      • Experience negotiating ISDAs, GMRAs, GMSLAs, MRAs, ISDA along with F&O, Cleared OTC, Prime Brokerage and syndicated loan agreements with top tier institutions globally.

      • Success pitching term sheets and credit analysis to Institutional Investors.

      • Good understanding of sovereign risk, the role of central banks, and regulators

      • Strong analytical skills specializing in analysis of financial institutions (banks, custodians, Market Infrastructures and broker-dealers) both from a Fundamental and ML/NLP basis

      • Familiarity with forward-looking CAMELS and stress-testing of financial institutions

      • Proven track record in credit management as well as analytical, decision making, and leadership skills

      • Bachelor’s degree with a quantitative (Mathematics, Applied Economics/Finance, Engineering, Computer Science) and accounting/BCom background

      • Ideal candidate will have a Masters degree with a focus on Corporate Finance / Portfolio Management / Risk Management or equivalent
