Maintain a fundamental understanding of investment markets, as well as the portfolio management strategies used by TFM, and investment strategies used by portfolio managers across OTPP’s asset classes.
Work with the MD, TFM and investment departments, and other Risk leaders to understand and analyze the key risks to the annual Investment Plan and its ongoing execution, and to provide an independent perspective of those risks.
Collaborate with investment teams and functional partners (Risk, Finance, etc) to understand the risk and return characteristics of investments across a wide array of asset classes.
Conduct research and analysis on a wide array of topics relevant to the Fund (e.g. asset class returns, liquidity, leverage, FX, etc) to understand the risks and exposures of the portfolio, and understand the risks of the market.
Create professional presentations to communicate key risk insights to senior leaders and the Board.
Support the development of risk scenarios/stress tests.
2-3 years of investing-related experience (could be direct investing, research or investment risk/strategy)
Undergraduate or graduate degree in business, economics, finance or similar
CFA/FRM/CA designation is an asset
Proficiency with large datasets and visualization using business intelligence tools such as PowerBI is an asset
Coding/programming skills (e.g. Python, VBA, etc) are an asset
Excellent financial modelling/data manipulation skills in Excel and charting in Excel and PowerPoint
Experience with financial modelling and/or investment analysis (e.g. related to portfolio construction, assessing risk, etc.).
Very organized with an ability to balance competing priorities, work independently, manage projects and thrive in a high-performance team environment with fixed deadlines.
Experience collaborating on projects within and across teams
Direct investing/buyside analysis/trading/portfolio strategy experience or previous experience in investment risk is a strong asset
Passion for investing, financial markets, asset allocation and related research
Strong fundamental research and analysis skills, centered around investing/finance/economics
Strong knowledge of financial markets and constituent asset classes and instruments
Strong research and analysis skills (e.g. financial/market/statistical analysis) with a focus on generating actionable insights
Strong interpersonal skills, able to build relationships with a diverse group of partners across the organization
Superb work ethic and a high degree of initiative with keen attention to detail
Effective communication & presentation skills (both verbal and written)
Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and understand complex issues
Ability to undertake and support multiple project streams, work under pressure and with time sensitive deadlines, and ensure accurate and value added outcomes for each.

The opportunity
The Investment Associate, Risk - Total Fund Insights supports the team by conducting research and analysis to assess investment risk at OTPP. The Fund Risk Insights team helps to bring a broad perspective on investment strategy, macroeconomic and geopolitical considerations to the assessment and independent challenge of investment risk. The team is accountable for forming an integrated and interconnected view of the risks racing the Fund in the context of an evolving investment strategy, and macro and geopolitical environment.
Who you will work with
The Associate will collaborate closely with the Managing Director (MD) and Principal, as well as other teams within the Risk division and key internal partners such as Total Fund Management (TFM) to analyze and assess various investment risks.
