      Team

      The Investment Banking Legal team in Europe supports the investment bank across the equity & debt capital markets, corporate broking and M&A teams on various transactional-related matters across all of its offices in EMEA. The team sits in London and Frankfurt and reports into the General Counsel for EMEA & Asia and Head of Investment Banking Legal in Europe.

      The Role

      Jefferies is looking to hire a junior lawyer (2-4/5 years PQE) into its London Investment Banking Legal team. The individual should be English law qualified and should have relevant experience in the practice of a leading international law firm or financial institution (including bank-side capital markets advisory work and UK public M&A).

      Reporting to the General Counsel for EMEA & Asia and Head of Investment Banking Legal in Europe, the candidate will work closely with and provide advice to the equity & debt capital markets, corporate broking and M&A teams (as well as to sub-groups within these teams) on various advisory and transaction-related matters with Jefferies’ clients. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing business, and the ideal candidate will have the initiative and flexibility to support the business expansion across a wide variety of markets and products.

      The role will be varied and will involve assisting on transactional work alongside the investment banking team, as well as reviewing and negotiating engagement letters and other ancillary documents and other ad hoc matters. ECM transactional experience is preferred but DCM and UK public M&A experience is also relevant and will be considered.

      The candidate should:

      • have experience with relevant transaction types, such as IPOs, rights issues and placings;
      • be prepared to be responsible for a wide variety of enquiries and matters and be able to juggle and prioritise a demanding workload;
      • be able to provide advice in a concise and timely manner to the business teams;
      • have a sound commercial head and an instinctive ability to get to the heart of issues as they present themselves;
      • be comfortable negotiating documents with external counterparties; and
      • have an understanding of the workings of a financial institution.

      Alongside the General Counsel for EMEA & Asia and Head of Investment Banking Legal, the London Investment Banking Legal team has a Senior Vice President, a Vice President, a paralegal and legal secondee. The Germany Investment Banking Legal team has a Senior Vice President and a Vice President.
