      About the opportunity

      The University of Sydney is seeking an Investment Portfolio Manager to oversee the investment process for its commercialisation pre-seed funds and support the growth of investee ventures. This role is crucial in driving investment strategies, supporting portfolio companies, and fostering relationships within the University's innovation ecosystem.

      You will be a key player in translating strategic plans into operational activities, ensuring alignment with the University's vision and business objectives. Additionally, you will play a vital role in developing investment cases, preparing detailed reports for the Commercial Advisory Committee, and providing strategic guidance to portfolio companies to help them achieve key milestones and attract follow-on funding.

      Reporting to the Head of Research Venture Investment, your key responsibilities will be to:

      • work closely with the venture support arm of the Commercialisation Office and relevant committees

      • conduct due diligence on potential investments and develop investment cases

      • provide strategic and operational support to portfolio companies post-investment

      • monitor portfolio performance and ensure compliance with fund requirements

      • foster relationships with key stakeholders in the University and the broader investment community

      • collaborate on the ongoing improvement of investment processes and commercialisation strategies.

      This opportunity is ideal for someone who is eager to drive impact and wants to shape the position to their own vision. There is flexibility for the role to be either a full-time or part-time role (salary will be pro-rata for part-time hours).

      About you

      Are you an experienced investment professional with a passion for driving innovation and supporting high-impact ventures? We are looking for someone who has:

      • demonstrated experience with investment management, including due diligence, market analysis, financial and business modelling

      • familiarity with commercialisation processes, particularly in a university environment

      • experience in a commercialisation/senior business role within industry or a university or research organisation

      • experience in reviewing and negotiating agreements, particularly within the venture capital investment process

      • strong project management and strategic thinking capabilities

      • excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

      Sponsorship / work rights for Australia

      Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

      Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
